Anybody have some insight on wheel cleaners. I have the alloy wheels and was wondering if anybody has had any trouble with retail spray on wheel cleaners. I.E. ruins the finish and other stuff like that. Do you rec. any specfic one that works better than another one.

Good old soap and water has always been enough for me, but if not, Meguairs Hot Wheels works very well, never had a problem with it.

Soap and water, and a $2.99 wheel brush from Pep Boys works for me.

Eagle 1 A to Z wheel cleaner. It comes in an orange bottle. Cleans the white lettering too. Take it to the carwash, spray the wheels, tires, and cool the brakes with the cold water. Spray it on all 4 wheels. By the time you are done with the 4th, go back and spray. Great stuff.

Clean them at least every two weeks. After that crap builds up, it becomes more difficult to take off.

A coat of whatever wax you use on the paint will make your wheels easier to clean.
dave and xtoy - afterall, the OEM wheels are coated/painted

Whatever you do, make sure your wheels are cool to the touch before you start spraying stuff on them. Since the finish on the factory wheels is paint, many cleaners are too harsh so like others on here I stick with the soap and water.

Cosco carries something called Bio-Eater. It's a bio-degradeable cleaner that my dad turned me on to. I spray it on the wheels when I start to wash my truck and let it soak while I clean the rest of it. Then I use a brush or rag to remove the excess grease, brake dust, road film etc...comes right off! Leaves my wheels shiny and new looking. I've had great luck with it! Give it a shot! -cbx

I use the Eagle One Wax-as-you-dry was right now because i havent had to use a paste wax yet and will use that between paste waxes. Will this do for the wheels? And also is Paste wax good for the wheels?

I know this may sound funny, but scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner and a little work from a wheel brush is the best way i've found for my wheels. I think it's because they have a smooth surface. However, the wheels on the mazda i had before my X were rough cast aluminum ( a bit harder to clean ). Eagle 1 makes type specific cleaners for different types of wheels (I naturally chose the one for rough cast aluminum) it worked great , no brush needed, but judging by the fumes, it was a pretty harsh chemical and pricey too.
