Could very well be that kits for the 2001 are out or coming out now, so YMMV.
As for why I frown about 'em, well - look at this example. The carbon fiber kit is expensive. You have to install it yourself or pay someone (dealer, shop) to do it. At the dealership, I saw a "carbon fiber kit" on a showroom Maxima... FOR $895!!!
The trim kit was also damaged and peeling off. For $895, considering it hasn't even left the showroom yet and it's damaged already... Would you want one?
Think about longevity, too. Look at some cars that have been on the road a few years that have these types of glue-on kits installed. Many have missing pieces, are damaged or just plain go out of style. You'll have to consider resale value at some point.
IMO, the only way to do it is to get a replacement part with the desired effect intrinsic to it's design. That is, get a kit that's more than just glue-on pieces. Much longer lasting, better quality and definately nicer looking...
