Ok, I've hear several people recomend claying the paint to get the rust spots of the back hatch. Is there a particualr brand/system you guys recommend. I got some minor rust spots and it looks like its all on the surface from brake dust or what ever. And I'd like to take care of it before there is a problem.

The only one I've heard of is the Meguiar's system, I've seen it all over the place.

There are a bunch, but I don't think it matters very much which one you get. The Meguires is great as it comes with their detailer to use as lube.

I tried clay on my hood last night, and there was no difference than before. I have some spots on my hood that are not rust, it looks environmental........i will do it again, and again...maybe eventually get it...

On the plus side, it is smooth as glass to the touch.

Mother's sells a 'clay kit' for about $20. It comes with the clay bar, detailing spray and IIRC a sample of wax. I've seen it in many FLAPS and auto departments in the department stores.

dave and xtoy - and there are some other brands too - no difference AFAIK

I like the Clay Magic brand that Carl posted a link to. It is available in a fine grade unlike the Megs which is only available in Medium Grade if I'm not mistaken.

I just used the Meguires clay system last weekend and I would recommend it. It is really idiot proof. (I'm proof of that!)
Very easy to use.

hey XTONKA, I love your signature

I use Mother's "california Gold" clay bar. I used it on my 12 year old Maxima (man I loved that car, took a new Xterra to finally give it up) and I also used it on my wife's brand new Altima. The Altima came with a layer of grit on it (this was 2 years ago) and the bar really made a difference (no rust yet). The surface went from feeling like a 16 year old kid with acne to a 6 month old's baby skin. My maxima had 11 years of california smog stuck to it and after the clay bar and wax, I was able to get a shine back on it I hadn't seen in years.
I would recomend you clay bar it as soon as you can (before you first wax it) so as to remove any rust particals before they become permanetly imbeded under your wax. I'm doing my new (Alpine Green X (one week old) tomorrow morning.
