When I bought my Xterra the dealer offered me a process called permaplate to protect the paint from fading. I had this applied to a previous vehicle I had and didn't really see any benefit. I keep my truck clean and waxed so I'm not too worried. Has anybody else had any experience with permaplate and should I consider it for my Xterra

The dealer had offered me the same thing when I purchased my X.
" Perma-Plate: protects your paint structure from sun and other environmental damage using high-tech Teflon-based hard shell coating-- Perma-Plate is "Permanent" protection that never washes away like wax does! Boost your resale value and enjoy a vehicle that is easier to maintain! LIFETIME WARRANTY OPTION on new vehicles." Basically, if you are too lazy to wax your car from time to time, you should spend money on this. BUT, if you are the person to remember to wax, then it's really not necessary... so if you have the extra cash to spend, then go for it.

I agree with Cloud9 - if you regularly wash and wax your truck, you're better off doing that.

I'm not into these "miracle cure" things. Bah!

I'm sorry but it sounds like "Snake Oil" to me...It seems around here they seem to put that on newly released vehicles that don't have alot of room to bargain on the price. It's easy for them to say ..."well we will throw in the $900.00 paint protection"...

"Touch of Class" is the same thing - I found their web site and the polymer coat is about $12/qt. You're paying for the warranty, not the chemicals. The dealer put it on for free without the paint warranty.

I talked my dealer into giving me the kit (Auto Armor) so I could apply it myself. Years ago, I heard good things from knowledgeable people about this stuff. I put it on and my X is looking great. Water beads and rolls right off. As to the long run though....

I wish someone from this generation would tell me something good about this stuff. I'd hate to be wasting my time.

Found out that the Permaplate protection from the dealership is actually a $25 bottle (1 quart) of Perma Shield. Just bought me a bottle at the county fair and it works! Don't waste your money on something you do yourself. check out their site: www.permashield.net
