What mileage are you all changing your cap & rotor? I have 24k and was thinking of changing it!
I don't always like to wait until the manual says it's time for a particular maintenance.

While I usually change them out around 30k on the other vehicles, when I inspected the cap and rotor on the Xterra at 35k, I noticed a little scoring, but not enough to warrant a replacement. I'll prolly keep checking every 5k miles or so to see what they look like and swap out when the scoring gets noticible.

Finally got around to changing mine around 70K. No problem before, and didn't notice any improvement afterwards, so I assume my old ones were still OK.
Only use Nissan parts here, those that have used aftermarket parts report poor results.

Thanks! I bought the part's from NISSAN. I'll just wait to change the cap & rotor. Probably when I change the plugs. I was thinking of changing the plugs at 30k. I read in a post here somewhere that if you leave the plugs in past 30k they're a bitch to get out. Any thoughts???

Yeah, my thought is let the dealer do the friggen plugs! Mine came out easy after 60K, but the work involved to get to them was not worth it IMO, and I did end up at the dealer to have the back one replaced. Hell, it took my a couple hours just to get the plug wire off that one and I broke my brake line brackets in the process! mad

Oh yeah, I did my cap and rotor at about 50K and it was fine so I kept it as a spare set. The second one looked worse after 30K than the first one did at 50K, so I put the old one back in for about 10K miles and then replaced it again with a new one. I also replaced my plugs around 60K and the wires around 85K.

No problem at all doing my plugs, other than that pesky #6 at the back.
30K is really way too early to change the platinum plugs though. They're supposed to be good for 100K (twin-tip plugs) and I'd go at least half that long before even thinking about pulling 'em. At $9 each, it's expensive!

I have not considered the the wire/rotor/cap on my X yet. It sees less than 5,000 a year. With my rustfinder, you could tell when the w/r/c was due for replacement on damp mornings - the engine would missfire til the heat drove off the moisture. So that's when they got replaced and not a mile sooner.
