I have an 03 4x4 3.3L. Recently it has been more difficult to get the car out of park (more resistance in the shifter). I took it to a transmission shop and they said i had a bad shifter cable and needed to replace it (approx 420.00) My brothers Father In Law is a mechanic. I talked to him briefly and he thinks it could be the brake interface. I need to drive it a little more to see if it has trouble between Reverse into Drive (I havent noticed a significant change in that shift) Anyone else have similar issues or recommended solutions?

I would look more towards the stupid safety thing that wont let you put it into drive without your foot on the brakes?

A bad shifter cable should probably start to affect the position of drive, reverse, etc.... If it goes from drive to reverse and back again without any problems I would probably look there first, maybe its not "unlocking" right.

Also, is this when parked on flat ground, or when parked on inclines that it happens?

Parked on flat ground in the driveway. I will take it out tomorrow when i get home from work and just test going from reverse to drive and back to park and see. Any ideas on how you would go about fixing the safety thing...If that is the problem might end up having to take in to the dealer i guess.

Drove it today. Seems to be stiffer when i shift from reverse to drive and back to park but it is not hard to get it out of reverse or drive. It is difficult to even get the truck to come out of park.

usually if a shift cable is going, you would see that when putting it into Drive, that it ends out looking like its Not in drive exactly and sometimes, depending on how bad it is, you might not be able to get it into "low 1" due to the stretch on the cable.
