Does anyone know where the engine computer is in the Xterra and how you would go about removing it? I'm getting an engine computer upgrade but since it's an import you have to send in the whole computer as opposed to just buying a chip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On my 95 P/U the chip was under the passenger side front seat...

Find a post by Jackel8821, and get his email address. He has removed his and had it reprogrammed.

it is behind front dash console. straight back from the cubby hole, power outlet area. it is encased in clear plastic. if you put your head in the foor well of the drivers side by the pedals and look to your right, there is it.

have fun voiding whatever warranty you may have left.

How are you going to drive the truck while it's out? Or are you just parking it until the computer comes back?

Once the company gets the computer, they ship it back next day air so I'll be carless for only two or three days.

What can you get with an upgrade that you don't have now. and how much does an upgrade cost? My last truck was a 85 S-10 Blazer so I'm new to the Truck upgrade thing.

Just keep in mind that unless you know a lot about cars and diagnostics, when this computer starts to go a little crazy (and it will eventually) you're pretty much fucked. I know of many more horror stories with reprogrammed chips than I do success stories. Plus I wouldn't have great expectations if I were you. There's not much you can do to the X to get big efficiency gains without spending a shitload of cash.
