Alternator help

Went out to help a friend last night at 3am and on the way out ended up going into some deep mirky water. Without my front splash plate on . Im getting the battery and brake lights and I think that means my alty just went dead. However, when I went down to wash it out at a gas station on the way home it looked pretty clean. Keep in mind about a month ago I sprayed it with a Silicone lub/sealant. I need to get to class tomorrow at 1130 and the nissan dealer opens at 8. Should I try and work with the alty I got by taking it off and trying to clean it, or should I just go get a new one. Thanks for the help..

You could do both...take the old one apart and clean it, after putting in a new one...that way, you always have a spare. BTW - if you get a new one, (Or used...) get the one for the VG33E Quest...125 amps instead of the wimpy 80 amp X version.

I wish somebody had a relocation mod for this. Maybe a good project in the spring.

The hard part is finding a good place that the belts would run well, AND the damn thing has room to be mounted, w/o being in the way of something else...like the hood, or that other engine crap, etc.
Frankly - I just Si'd the shit out of mine when it was still clean...and despite Pine Barrens Bog Water, and a slew of other nasty brews - it just has thus far, refused to die.

pulled it out, cleaned it with WD-40 and reinstalled it and it didn't work. Had a hard time finding the alty I needed on island ended up having to go the other side of the island to find one. Only hard part is finding out how to unhook that harness. Wasn't able to find a write up so as soon as I get some free time I will write one up.
