After a month long search, I finally found my X! 2001 SE 4X4 Cloud White with a tow hitch. Here's a pic of my new baby. I know, the SE with moonroof is probably useless, but I couldn't find a decent XE 3pak and I was tired of calling dealers every day. Thanks to the XOC for helping me figure out that the Xterra is the only truck anyone should ever buy. I can't wait to go on the next Xcursion. Mods ordered: - K&N Air filter - Neoprene seat covers - Thule 4 bike Hitch rack (Gotta hit those trails 3 times a week) Mods considering: - K&N Aircharger - Gibson exhaust - ARB pull bars

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, haven't decided on the tires. People on this forum seem to prefer 17 inch wheels. But I don't know if that'll affect my gas mileage too much. i was thinking about going with 16 inch rims. Any recommendations on wheel size and type of tires if I don't plan on lifting my truck? I'm hoping to find a happy medium between big tires and decent gas mileage. And thanks for not ripping on the fact that I still have my running board on. I'll probably have to remove them once I take my baby offroad.

For 2001 its in great shape 8)
Are those 16" wheels, btw?
You dont really want to go for 17" unless you planning to be lift nut, btw 8) Axle right - most of people go with 15", which seems to be more than efficient for offroading, since you aint loosing much power and aint getting in trouble with cops who detecting you going like 30+m/h when speedlimit is 25 and you seeing 25 on your speedometer 8) (i am now getting about +3m/h off even on same wheels, but bigger tire. At least thats what my GPS saying)

Uzbad, thanks. Yeah, the truck is really clean and it's Nissan certified up to the extended 100,000 miles. So I'm happy about that.
I think I have 15" rims on them. So what kind of tires do you have on yours? I just want maximum clearance so I can take it offroading, but I don't really want to do any lifting of sorts. What is the biggest tire I can get away with without doing trimming, lifting, etc...?

What is the biggest tire I can get away with without doing trimming, lifting, etc...? well to avoid beating here is all about tires and stuff but basically you running right now 31" by looks of it, and i dont think you could go any bigger without serious trimming + minor lift. As many would say - just try those for a bit, they might be more than enough for your needs. It also helps to be 6+ft tall, if you wee bit smaller - you might want to get padded seats (totally no offense - they seriously helps, i am seeing that with my wife - she is 5+ft, and if her seat covers wouldnt be cushioned - she would be just lost behind wheel 8)) as about me - i am running 15" wheels with 31x10.5x15 MT tires. Used to be 30x9.5x15 AT. There is some difference in handling and ride, but most of them positive.

Why don't you come on out to the SCCX run this weekend at Calico and test out your new truck and meet some new friends.

Axel, I was thinking about going to Calico with you guys and break in my X. I'm a bit hesitant because I have no 4X4 experience and I don't want to end up like this guy. You guys at SCCX offer any classes on how not to kill myself?

Go and you'll learn. If you don't go, you'll wonder what you missed.

You guys at SCCX offer any classes on how not to kill myself? That was Logan and that was at Last Chance Canyon, not at Calico. There are going to be beginner easy runs as well as advanced runs for the more hardcore group. I'm sure somebody on the more difficult runs will have an empty seat if you just want to leave your X at base camp and jump in with one of them to see what the X is capable of doing. Edited to add: And that was a 4X2 also not 4X4 so you'll have a definate advantage.
