He almost ended up with no arm. Not the smartest move I've seen.

I agree....definate dumbass. I hate to see people driving down trails with no forethought on what's coming up. They just assume they are modified, and can drive over anything. The guy just dropped down into the hole, couldn't make it, and backed up w/o thinking about his surrounding or the limitations of his truck. Damn Heep owners...oh. nevermind.

When the truck its approaching at the begining of the video, it seems to me that the truck its so unstable, jumping all the way... I guess that the lack of doors, hood and rear bumper represent a lack of weight that make the truck so unstable, plus the tire at the roof, plus the unsafe driving...

Since the truck fell to the right side of the guy, he fell also to that side and get hurted. Did you notice that he´s holding something with his left hand? One hand offroad driving = problems ... frown

A lot of exemples of what NOT to do...

Dang that sucks! What a waste of a well build jeep.

As far as the doors...Better trail visibility! I've wanted to rig up some half doors on the Xterra for some time but the cost of getting another set of doors and having them custom made doesn't make much financial sense:

Wow, thanks for sharing. Good example of what not to do.

I don't see why everyone is ragging on that video. That is a very flexy, well built Grand Cherokee that can go places your Xterra can only dream of.
There is nothing unsafe about any of the driving except for the minor fact he didn't spot out the passenger side when backing up. The trail dropped off quite a bit just out of his view.

Without knowing that, he simply backed up on the same line he drove in on, but once the nose dropped he took his foot off the throttle sensing a tippy situation. Had he kept the power on the Jeep most likely would have backed right out of there.

It was a pretty beat up Jeep to start with, and now it just has more dents. The tire on the roof is a dumb idea though, and added to the damage up there.

Nope.
Even without doors and a hood, it weighs what your Xterra weighs.

The truck looks unstable because it has a very flexible suspension. An Xterra would have flopped over on its' side much easier (and sooner) than the Jeep did.

100% driver fault. What a shame, that was a very nice Grand Cherokee.

A lot of off roaders take off their doors for better sight. Lot's have a tire on the roof. On the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee you have to cut front and rear fenders to fit any tires about 31" if you want max flex... Unless you lift 8" or more....

Nice rig, too bad the driver got overconfident.

I was thinking that since he was steering with his right arm, maybe he got his arm stuck in the steering wheel, and suffered a severe spiral fracture from having the wheel wrenched around . . .

But the tires in the video don't seem to get banged around too much . . .

Maybe he put his arm over his head when he rolled, and the cabin crushed in on him?

The tire on the roof made the damage worse. Might not have caved so much if it wasn't there.

That ZJ is very nicely built and is driven by a very experienced driver who pushes his rig hard. You can read more about the roll, and what caused it here .

Yes, 100% the drivers fault (the guy who hit you).

What about a mechanical failure that causes an accident? That would not be the drivers fault. right?

Drivers (owners) fault for not checking the vehicle before driving. laugh

It always comes down to the driver.

Maybe every collision is 98% driver's fault.
Some exceptions, unavoidable, unless driving dangerously slow: A jumpy deer in tight driving conditions, a sinkhole, a collapsed bridge (ala Okla. last year), rocks falling in your path, a blowout in tight driving conditions, (as long as the driver doesn't slam on his brakes), a lightning strike...other "acts of God."
