I'm running a 5-speed with Calmini gears and a rear ARB locker and Dean (XPLORX4) is running an auto and an ARB rear locker.

I'm very happy with my sliders!

Nicely done boys! I grew up in the bay and heard nightmare stories about the trail. My dad went on one Jeepers Jamborie and said he will never wheel again. When I get our "X" up to the level of yours, I will make the jorney.

One question though, your tires on the "X" looked pretty basic, do you think some more aggressive tread would help or hurt?

Nice pics and nice dents! [ThumbsUp]

hahahahaha... It's funny you say that because on the first day there was a group of very large Toyotas that caught up to us and were following the "Street Tire" imprints to see who was on the trail. Basically 90% of the trucks that go though the Rubicon run some kind of mud tire.

I'm runnning a 265/75/16 Scorpion A/T and did fine. I got plenty of traction on the rocks but had a bit more trouble than XPLORX4 who was running a 32" BFG A/T ko. By the time we run it next year I will be running a set of TruXs (well that's the plan for now).

But to answer your question, an A/T tire will do fine, but a thick walled mud tire would be much better. At 18psi, I was loosing some air at the bead when I really pushed the tire to it's limit. A softer tread would also grip better for this type of wheeling.

I thought that was the case, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a new technique out there. You have to stay on top of things these days. Once again, nice work!
