What could be the problems with running the longer Bilsteins for a while before getting the AALs.
I am looking seriously at the "Rear: F4-B46- 2126-HO" but I don't have the extra height in the rear yet. And it doesn't look like I will be getting it with the year.
What dangers will I run into?
Will I crush them on potholes or under compression?

You will bottom them out.

I installed mine about a week before my lift arrived, and it was sad.

I'm not sure how people are running the longer shock with just AALs, because the suspension is the same height as stock when compressed, which is about an inch too short for this shock.

The rear spring pack is 1.5" thicker than stock, which means the shock is mounted lower (further from the frame), and doesn't bottom out under full compression.

What are the drawbacks to using the "Bilstein recomended" rear shocks with an aal? How limiting are they?

The longer shock, for the SLR spring pack only, is BE5-6216-H0.

The F4-B46-2126-H0 offers more extended length (more droop, a good thing), but is short enough under compression to not cause any problems.
