anyone out there switch from 16" to 15" rims on 01 X SE. Thinking about switching rims and putting on 32 or 33" x 12.50 super swampers SSR. Will this "work better" than just putting 31" on stock rims (amount of trimming)? I want the tires to stick out the sides a bit to give some protection to the body in deep ruts.

I have an 01 SE that I put 15" DR rims on. The only problem I found was with the spare. If you are getting the 15" spare from a 4X2 to go with it check it out on the front end first. When I put the DR spare on my front end the rim rubbed the brake caliper. This is because the calipers on a 4X4 are 1" bigger than a 4X2. You can still put it on the back end with no problem though. cool

Not quite sure what you mean. I am buying after market rims which woudl be a 4x4 rim. How about the width 8" or 10" compared to the 7" stock?

Not trying to be a prick, but do some searches.
You'll find that it's very difficult to get aftermarket rims that fit the Xterra well, and putting 32" or 33" SSR's is a tough thing to do if you plan to wheel the truck--they will destroy your fenders unless you cut them first, or body lift.
I was looking at my 32's last night and I think you would probably rub on the idler arm brace if you put 33x12.50 SSR's on stock rims, and adding more width in the rims is not going to help you.
I'm sure others can give you more information.

As to actually going from 16" to 15" rims, it's no problem at all, or at least I've had no problems doing it on my truck.
