I went to BJ's the other weekend to get a price on BFG AT's for my Xterra. I deceided on 265/70/R16 because I do very little off-roading, and I want to minimize any trimming to the mud flaps. I didn't see the size I was looking for (only LT265/75/R16), so I went over to the tire service desk to see if they could order a set of 265/70/R16's for me. Now this is where the story gets weird, the sales person told me since the Xterra has "P" rated tires and not "LT", he wouldn't order the tires for me or install a LT tire on a vehicle equipped with "P" rated tires because the truck could roll-over more easy. Is this statement true, or was he just feeding me a line?

There may be a hint of validity, but it was stupid of them to lose a sale over it.

I have to ask then, does BFG make a P265/70/R16 in an AT?

Thanks Brent/roofgoat.

I guess I'll have to buy my tires somewhere else. I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue before? I'm NOT a tire expert, so again I have to ask: are the majority of aftermarket tires people are purchasing for their Xterra's "LT" type? To classify a tire as "LT", does it need to have at least 3 plies in the sidewall? Does anyone have larger aftermarket AT tires on their trucks with a "P" rating?

Funny.. I bought and installed my 31" BFG A/T's at my Nissan dealer, (they always cut me a rate so it worked out cheaper than elsewhere).
The only issue they phoned me on was due to the slight rub, so I showed up with a pair of snips for the last of the trimming and drove away.
