I was looking into getting the BFG M/T's for my X; however, I found out that the sizes are very limited, the smallest available is a 33", which is too big (w/ no lift). I know that the BFG A/T is available in a 265/65/17 (32x10.50), which is the size I'm looking for. To get to the point, which tires are you other S/C'ers running, asssuming you still have the 17" rims?

I am still running the BFG long trails that came on my 17's. I am going to wait with fingers crossed until Yokohoma releases the Geolander in 17" sizes!

The Frontiers are a tad different but I have the BFG ATs in 265/70R17 on mine (31.8 inches).

If you really want an MT then both the Dunlop MT and Goodyear MT/R are available in a 265/70 17. Check out The tire rack . The Dunlops are ~$100 and the GY's are ~$160 plus shipping. My other advice to you would be to go ahead and get a set of 16" rims or even better yet 15". Mount your MT's on those and use them for offroading only. The tires will be cheaper and you'll have a far greater selection to choose from for the smaller rims and you'll appreciate the on road ride of non MT's for your daily driving. In addition to all that you'll save alot of tire wear on the MT's.

Thanks for the info. The 17" rim seems to limit the selection a lot. Having said that, I still want to keep them and dish out the extra $$$ for tires. Is anyone running Super Swampers on 17's??

Rather than starting a new topic, I thought I'd just ask another question here. From searching I found that if you have a drivetrain problem that can be "traced" to your larger/aftermarket tires, it will void the warranty. However, I was curious if anyone has actually had a problem due to larger tires? I'm asking b/c I don't want to void anything in year 1 of 7 (or 6, can't remember) of my warranty. Thanks...

Phat, there are several sizes of Swampers for 17" wheels. You can just about count on Interco to have oddball sizes nobody else does.

Unless you exceed 32" height or 11.5" width so, Nissan would be very hard-pressed to claim your minimally-larger tires could cause a problem. Both are within an inch of the factory size on the exact same running gear.
You'll probably have more issues from running differing offset wheels and their effect on the steering should you bring it in with a dead centerlink or something. If you're on stock wheels with slightly-oversized tires, they shouldn't balk.

Then again, nothing is certain.

Brent, thanks for your reply. I searched intercotire.com and it looks like I could go with a SSR, a 32x11.50x17 and a 265x70x,17 (32x10.50) are both available. However, I also saw that the actual diamter is something like 32.5", whereas a 265x70x17 in a BFG is about 31.6" in diameter. I'm not sure if I could get away with a 32.5" tire without serious rubbage (and no lift). Any thoughts?? (Yes I know tire rubbage has been covered many, many times; however, I only remember seeing that a 32x11.5 would fit without specifying that a swamper 32x11.50 would or wouldn't fit.)

Swampers tend to run bigger than most. I have used 32x11.50 SSRs on 15x7 stock steel wheels and no lift, about 1/2 tread at this point, and I still get some rubbing despite trimming. Brand new and they would rub pretty good. It's more the width than the diameter though, a 265-wide should be a much more comfortable fit. Your wheels are 8" wide though, might make a little difference in how the tires tuck.

They are already available - I have had 265/70R17 Yokohama Geolandar AT+II for a year now...and I have been pleased with their performance. As well they don't rub at all - MFG's listed installed height 31.6"

FYI: There are even Goodyear MTR's available in that size!

Brent, how many miles did you get out of the SSR's? How do they handle on the road, especially in the rain? I don't really need a MT, but they just look so much cooler than an AT. :rolleyes:
