Hi,

I've got the 2004 XE-V6 with the 16" mid sized aluminum alloy rims. When I turn the stearing wheel all the way left (which I only do in parking lots) I can hear the tire or something making a rubbing sound.

The tires are nowhere near the mudflaps when the wheels are turned, so are they rubbing against the wheel wells?

Xterras seem to turn pretty far so is this something typical with slightly larger than stock rims?

No.

Just sounds like a cranking rubbing sound.

could be something real simple like greasing your steering bump stops.

I have noticed the same thing in my 2004 same tire and rim size. I think it is just the sound of the outer edge of the tire rubbing on the ground as the tire angles in to make the turn. I notice it in both right and left turns. I have checked to see if anything is touching the tire, but could not notice anything.

It's a 2004, nothing 'should' have to be greased.

Take it back to the dealer.

I've checked but I don't see anything rubbing.
It sounds like it is just somthing these trucks do since they turn so sharp.

Did you check the steering stops ? 4 total, 2 per side. Turn your wheel to the max, crawl under, and you will see what looks like a bolt head hitting a curved piece of metal. Grease this contact area.

I had mine for like 4 months and the steering stops started making noises. They needed to be greased...but the dealer did it.
