Tire size for the Exterra:)
I have the original tires that came on my vehical now and need to get a new set. The tire size on there now is 265/70r16. I was thinking about going with a 265/75R16 for better Gas millage and was wondering if anyone has problems with that size tire fitting ok on the Exterra. The tire I am looking at getting is the Yokahoma Geolander at/II

Search and check the sticky for more info, but...

It'll fit just fine, you may have to shave off a bit of plastic inside the wheel-well - which is easily done with a dremel or sharp knife and takes a couple of minutes. Nobody will notice. I doubt you'll notice much mileage difference. I took a bit of a hit going from 255/65R16s (tiny) up to the 265/75s, but I started out a lot lower than you.

The Yokos are generally considered pretty good, but reportedly wear a bit on the fast side. Search and you'll find tons of info about tires here that people like. You can also check out tirerack - they have a ton of user reviews, which can be very helpful in coming to a decision.

Good luck and welcome. [Wave]

Thank you for your response. I am going to have to use this site more often. I have not had many problems with my Exterra as well smile

Since he has an '02, the 265/75R16 will fit without trimming. That's what I'm running on my '02, with no problems (not same brand, just same size).

Also, jumping up to a larger diameter probably won't gain you any realizable gas mileage gains over the stock size. Your speedo will be off around 3-5%, so take that into account when you compute your gas mileage.

Some people w/ '02-04 have to trim a bit for that size even when running stock wheels, so I wanted to forewarn him of the possibility. There may be a bit of variance from truck to truck and there's surely some variance from tire brand to tire brand.

I realize it's a less intrusive job (if it needs it at all) than the '00-01.

Good point. I stand corrected (or at least modified laugh ).
