Yes, I know this is not a Jeep forum, but I know many of you also own/have owned Wranglers. I am proud of my Xterra, but a close friend of mine owns a '01 Jeep Wrangler and has a tire question...I didn't know who else to turn to. She has the factory 30x9.5x15 tires on her factory 15" aluminum wheels. She wants to go a little bigger on tires (maybe a 31x10.5x15) using her factory wheels. The guys at the tire shop she went to said anything bigger than what she has now will rub, and she will need a lift to put even a 31" tire on. Like a typical Wrangler, she has plenty of room in her wheelwells. Do any of you have an idea if a 31" tire will fit on the her wheels and in her wheelwells without rubbing? If not, what will? Thank you so much for your help in advance, and understanding.

My sister has a jeep w/30s on it as well. Tire place told her anything bigger would rub as well. I dont' think they are gonna lie to you about something like this as it only means a larger dollar sale which always looks good.

Actually tire shop guys are famous for being wrong about the max sizes of tires that will fit, and tend to blather on about ABS and other nonsense.

For street driving the last generation (round headlights again...) Wranglers can fit 33's...but the inside rear wheel wells have a bit of metal to BFH into clearance. 32x11.5's are an easy fit.

For off road, you need a 1.25" -2" BL to clear 33's on compression...and most people wheel them with either a 2" spacer lift and the BL, or a 3" SL and the BL. (Or bumpstop extensions instead of the BL's......)

I have 31 10.50s on my TJ and they fit fine. They will rub at full turn to the right, and I was told that they may rub a little fender if you are flexing it out, I have not had that problem. I have no lift on my TJ (until this coming weekend:) )

I had a '00 Wrangler with 31-10.50s. The only thing I had to do was adjust the steering stops to stop it from rubbing at full turn. It also would rub on the fender flares with the wheels turned to lock and fully stuffed into the wheel well. No problems with the rear though. Just tell them to do it and have fun.

and I have 31x11.50's on my 2000 TJ. I have never rubbed while driving on the road and it's only extreme (for stock suspension) offroading does it ever touch for me. If she doesn't wheel it, she can do it.
