#267875 - 16/03/06 06:39 PM UPDATE : Not an Xterra owner, but need tire help for an X

My father in law has a 2003 Xterra (I think it's an '03).

I ran across what I thought was a great deal on some NISMO wheels at the dealership, so I got them for his birthday.

The dealership ordered ten sets of silver, and ten sets of the brownish gold ones and coldn't sell them. so they discounted them, and discounted them again. I ended up getting them for $499 for the set of 4.. that's an alright deal, right?
Now we are trying to decide what to wrap them in. I'm thinking BFG AT's, I run 285/75R16 TrXuS on my Jeep, but don't think he would be happy with the consistant inbalance they have. I've run 33x12.5 BFG MT's before, and they are wholly inappropriate for New ENgland winters. My Jeep came with Wrangler MT/R's, but I don't think they will look good on his X.

Anyway. He currently has 265/70R16 street tires on the standard 4-spoke wheels. He won't do a lift, and won't do any real offroading. I've read through the tiresize threads, but they can be misleading (At least they are on the Jeep boards). I'm thinking of 265/75R16's for the new nismo's. Thoughts?

I know on the Jeep boards they insist you cannot run 33's without a 3" lift. But I've been running 33's for two years on a 1.25" lift, with no issue. So I'm thinking that for general road use, with maybe a moderately bumpy road, the 265/75's should work on his X, but I don't know anything about the xterra really.

265/75-16 is an ideal size to go with, you might have to trim away a sliver of plastic, but not likely.

Personally I really like the MT/R's. I think they look great on the X but I don't know what your FIL likes. I use my MT/Rs in MN so I know they will stand up the the winter weather. I have a picture of mine with MTR's in the PML thread right next to this one.

That looks sweet! Does he have air horns mounted to the roof?

I love the MT/R's. They are my favorite.

I"m sorry you paid $900+ though. Thats a little steep.

That looks awesome though. The deal on the rims helps make up the difference.

Paying the least doesn't always equal a good deal. While I would have preferred to pay $180/tire instead of $225, there is value in doing business with the local shop [ThumbsUp]

Who did you end up using? A great little shop is MR. Gee's Tire just past the Goffstown border on 114. For future reference anyways.
