How can I get the best onroad handling of my Offroad X? In winter my OR is offroad every day - I live in rural New England at the end of a steep dirt road. But in summer it's mostly interstates - I'm thinking Goodyear Fortera's as a second set of tires.
My question is whether to switch just the tires or go to the expense of a second set of 17" rims. Will it make a noticeable improvement for highway handling?
And if so, what size? My stock OR tires on 16" rims are 265/75-R16. On the SE model 17" rims, the tires are 265/65-R17 but these would not add up to the same diameter as the OR tires. To match the diameter on 17" rims I would need to go 265/70-R17.

17 inch rims would improve handling, but tires will cost you a lot more. The only thing I did on my X was increase the air pressure to 40 lbs. This will also improve you gas mileage, and you wont has the low pressure tire sensor going off quite as often.

IMHO, I would not go with 17" rims. If you really want two sets of wheels and tires, get a set of ATs and a set of MTs. Personally, I have only one set of tires - the BFG AT KOs, and I really like them.

Street tires may have affect on grip but will of next to no affect on handeling. The truck is still stop heavy and will still sway regaurdless. Stiffer shocks, steering stabilizers, etc will help you though.
