so I finally went and upgraded my stock spare with a 32" BFG MT w/ about 50% tread - w/ a trade-in of the old one the total cost was only $40.00. My biggest worry was fitting it underneath w/ the hitch (the one that 'abacuses' or whatever sells on eBay - the tubular one). So fully inflated it wouldn't quite fit, so I dropped the pressure to about 24 psi and managed to fit it in there. After installing the concern was any brake lines, etc that were close to where it meets up with the 'pumpkin' area - so far so good, but I'm going to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't rub too much in the day to day movement of the suspension, etc. Anybody else stuff a 32" spare on there with a hitch - and have you had any problems?

How close is it to the exhaust pipe? I know my 31" tires are about two inches away.

It was far enough away that I didn't even notice, really. I got underneath my X for about 5 minutes after I cranked it back up there and just looked around to be sure I wasn't doing anything stupid - I'm sure the pipe was at least an inch or two away though.

My brand new 32" spare BFG mud won't fit underneath. I don't think letting air out would help either =(
Would someone please make a rear tire carrier!! Besides KMA of course.

Someone should really take the KMA design over to someone that knows how to weld and crank these things out...

I would probably buy one. My Pathfinder had the rear carrier mount and it was ideal...

I would take one for the shackles and beefy protection certainly - I'm still on the fence about the hitch mounted tire... The integrated receiver is icing on the cake.

I would buy a rear carrier for sure if someone came up with a design for it that was reasonably affordable. The $350 or so KMA wants is a bit outta my range right now. I still can't understand why the heck Nissan put one on the Pathy but not the X!?

How is that spare 32" holding up with the hitch? I would like to get a set of 32s, but it looks like it wouldn't be a neat fit.

I have a 265/75R16 Perelli Scorpion AT stuffed underneath and I have to air it all the way down to fit. The Perelli's are a little under a true 32" tire. So far no problems.
BTW I have a Draw-Tite hitch on my X.

Well, it didn't hold up very well. I left it on for a couple weeks (no offroading), but it really started to rub on one of the brake lines on the pumpkin. Not a good thing. I could probably get away with a 31 incher, but 32 is just too big - at least for my taste. My recommendation - put it somewhere else...

I've got a 1/4 tread life 32" MT underneath for the last 15,000 miles without any problems. I did air it down to 10lbs to get it in then aired it up to about 16lbs.

I don't think a new tire would fit, but then again I don't need a new tire hanging under my truck anyway.

It's against the hitch / bumper and very close to the exhaust but have had no problems with brake lines or anything else.

What do you know, the search feature actually works....

I just picked up a used tire that is the same size as the rest on my truck (265/70 R17) and that thing is darn close to the tail pipe. Should I be worried, or will it be ok to leave it alone? I can probably put something on the tread of the tire that is closest to the pipe, like some metal tape and insulation. Any other thoughts or advice from those that have encountered the same?

Don't worry I have asked this on some Froniter boards too, but kinda want a broad opinion on what others have done/would do. Keeping it in the bed isn't really an option either.

My brand new 32" BFG MT had to be aired down to 15 psi to fit and it still was too close for me plus the fact I don't like dragging it over rocks and whatever. It's now on top in the rack. laugh

As I posted on NOR, my 32" spare is within 1/2" or less of the pipe, and gets some rubbing as the pipe vibrates too. The rubber is a bit glazed-looking, but it may be more of a "polish" from the pipe rubbing than from heat. No discernable harm from it. You could drop your spare and turn it 45 degrees every so often to keep the effects from being focused on one spot for too long.
