Just got my Firestik today...plan on installing it tomorrow, the way that Ian did. Just wondering if there are any precautions I should take before installing. The only kind of antennas I have used in the past were the magnetic kind.

Thanks.

Nope. But I would suggest installing a spring between the antenna and mount so when you hit branches and things it has a chance to bend instead of breaking.

Just one thing...Ian, I noticed that you said you trimmed the gasket underneath the roof rack. I was just wondering if you have noticed any rusting or anything from trimming that. Not sure if water gets underneath it and causes any problems.

No problems that I noticed. The gasket is just hard plastic, and it had already scuffed the paint a bit. No reason to worry since it's covered by the rack.

I did remove the antenna though, it made too much noise on branches. It's on my front bumper now.

Well, before I start, can you buy just a gasket for the roof rails? If I screw it up, I would like to know if I can just replace that one part.

Thanks

Nissan will probably require that you buy a whole rack.

I cut a small piece out, and it would fit back in nicely if I needed it to, but I lost it in my garage.
