im thinking about upgrading my upgraded speakers. I currently have the Infinity Reference 6.5 and 6X9s. But theyre starting to sound a little fuzzy, so i figure ill get new & better ones. Anyone have any recommendations? I know the mounting depth is very small for the X. Some brands i would like are Alpine, Infinity, & any other high quality brand. Any opinions are welcome.

Sure love the Alpine 6x9s, sound is great and alot louder than the infinitys will ever be. Don't know the actual name, but just buy the most expensive Alpine 6x9 3 ways and that will be the one I have, you will not regret it. Very crisp at a low-moderate level.

I have a pioneer premier componet set in the front on a pioneer 50 watt per channel amp and matched to a pioneer 8100 receiver. I also have a 10inch kicker solobaric L7 sub on a 300 watt amp. The system sounds awsome, and I havent even replaced the 6x9's yet. I HIGHLY recomend the Pioneer Premiers.

I put the JL Audio xr-650cs [I think, which ever wwas there top of the line ] and they are awesome. Upgrading the wiring to bypass the stock wiring really helped though.

I have to agree about the Alpines...I have Alpine S-series 6.5s in front and 6X9s in the back, VERY nice. But, if you are looking for a ton of bass, these aren't for you (Polks would be a better choice for bass). But, if you like clear, high and mid-tone's, these are great...I had these speakers just running of an Alpine 60x4 7893 deck and it was plenty of power, so if you aren't looking to spend big bucks on an amp and sub these should work just fine.

Bass, from a 6x9, wouldnt recommend purchasing a 6x9 for its bass output, thats what the sub is for, which Im sure King Cobra has that. If that is what you desire though, Rockford Fosgate puts out the best I have personally heard for 6x9 bass with no loss of clearity.

yeah, i already have a subwoofer, so the bass is fine. I really would like sharper highs and mids tho, and Alpine always caught my ear as the best in this category. My new head unit should be in by wednesday-and that puts out 50w x4. Whats everyones opinion on adding another amp to that? Im leaning towards the power is good enough from the head unit.

What kind of head unit did you have before? Just because I have the same speaker (605 cs and ?6959?) and I thought they were good but a bit disappointing. But then I found out the shop wired them wrong (tweeters not working) and now that they're working they sound amazing. The reason I ask is that maybe it was just the deck? I have a 60 X 4 alpine and now that they're wired right I think the speakers are awesome.

An amp, even at the same power rating would produce a more powerful and cleaner signal. But they're expensive and take up room.

I went with a 5 channel, so I can power my subs and all the speakers.

What head unit did you get. The one I'm about to {kenwood KDC-X959) has an option to turn of the factory amp and just use an aftermarket one. That way the headunit won't produce as much heat and will give off a shaper signal.

If you want bright highs and mids, than you might want to look at MB Quarts or Boston Accoustics. They were a little too bright for me, but some like that.

eek [Spit]

You're shelling out $2k on a head unit? Damn, hope you have fun with it. that 50w is peak, and only 18watts RMS, so I'd add an amp, especially with that kind of dough going into the X.
