My XTerra came with the very basic keyless entry and honk-and-flash-when-the-door-is-opened secuirty system. I read in the owners manual that a better system, the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer system is also available. I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the system after it leaves the factory. Anyone know?

Isn't that what the chipped key that all 05's come with is about? Engine doesn't turn over with a non-chipped key (as expected).

(I actually got a non-chipped key made so I can take it with me kayak surfing in salt water and unlock the door with it when done. A chipped key can be damaged by salt water, that's why I do this.)
