Does installing a head unit from Crutchfield require soldering?
Thanks,
Brad

Yes, but in my opinion the soldering is by far the easiest part of the process. Even if you don't like soldering (I do though, so my opinion might be kinda biased...)

You don't need to solder the connections. Use a good set of crimp type connectors if you don't want to solder. They'll work just peachy.

Soldering's fine with me...I just gotta get an iron if that's the case. I think it might be better than crimps. What was the hard part, gothamist?

Well, I didn't do it in my truck (no $$$ for it yet), but I helped a friend w/ an '00 Frontier do a head-unit swap and I didn't like getting the old unit out...the stock wiring harness disconnects were a real pain to pull out of the old head unit.

At least the soldering/crimping you can do in the comfort of your house.

[edit]I should add that a few of the people here have done really trick stereo installs, if you want advice about anything X specific you should check them out. Gearhead1972's install comes to mind...[/edit]

Thanks Goth,
Strom, like Goth said you can do the soldering in the comfort of your home Cruchfield will send you a harness that will plug in to the factory harness. When you get the head unit take the harness from the head unit and the harness from Cruchfield and match the wires Cruchfield does a really good job of color coding their harnesses with stock colors. They will be marked also. Solder and heat shrink tubing are the only way to go IMO it looks very good but who is going to see it ME. Make sure that you cut all the heat shrink first and put it on the wire BEFORE you solder the wires. Then just plug and play.
Good Luck
