I'm going to ad an amp to my 2001 SE and heard that there may be a remote lead somewhere in the wiring harness - can anyone verify this? Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the head unit (stock 6-disc in dash).
I would like the amp to turn on only when the head unit is on, so if anyone has suggestions please post!

Can't remeber who origianlly posted it, but here it is. For further detailed instructions, look back or search this forum. Many, including myself, have done this and left the instructions on the board.

There is no remote lead. You either have to have your amp on all the time when the truck is running, or you need to put in a switch. Personally, I would go with the switch.

Chuck's right, no remote lead. I put in a switch so I don't hear the amp hum when my radio is off. Otherwise I generally leave it on b/c 90% of the time I listen to the stereo while driving.

Really? No remote on?
That's so odd, so the little stock Rockford amp is on all the time?

Here's something interesting. Take a look at the Nissan wire harness diagram, found at Installdr Pin B reads "Amplifier Turn On Wire" (note that you are looking at the mating end of the connector)
Now compare that to the pic above from Viper X.
Pin 12 on the CN700 P6 connector reads "No Connection"
Is it possible that there IS a remote lead buried in the harness?

I used pin 10 (the bottom left pin shown int he diagram), so that the amp turns on whenever the ignition is turned on. It is a little annoying when you don't have the radio on, but thats less that 5% of the time for me. I may end up putting a switch on it anyway.

I checked the head unit for the amplifier turn on pin. Good news is it's there -- bad news is it does nothing! There was no voltage detected.

I have an '02 SE with the Rockford system and I can definitely say that it does have a remote lead, because I'm using it. I know that the base radio doesn't because I had an '01 Frontier that didn't have it. There are 2 spare wires coming out of the 2nd harness containing the Rear Speaker leads. One is a ground of some type and the other is a remote. It's only problem is that it doesn't have a lot of current drawing ability so if you are planning on turning on more than one or two items you may need to install a relay.

Do you remember what color the remote wire was?

There is a remote lead on all the xterra steroes. I know on the 00 and 02 X's it's the G/R (green/red) wire going into the back of the stereo. It goes into terminal (or pin) 10 in the wiring hardness. The other end is connected to fuse number 18.

I don't know if the 01 is the same color, but I'm thinking it is.

service manual shows P (Pink) for 02 amp switched B+ lead. Coming from Pin 12 on the radio to pin 13 on the amp. Looks like it might be the lower right corner (looking into the plug) for pin 12, coming from the radio (smaller connector) but for some reason the pinout doesen't specify it as "pin 12" in the picture..

As stated before, 01 shows no outboard amp, but I'd bet your G/R is actually the ACC power input to the radio (switched Accessory) not remote out. At least, that's what the 01 and 02 wiring diagrams show. It works for turning on an amp of course, but it probably won't power down the amp if you turn off the radio while the car is running.

Ok not only is there a remote on for the X's but there is a remote on for every vehicle that has a stereo. What do you think the ACC portion of the ignition (maybe a switch) Why do you think the radio turns off when the key is off. That is a remote on. I can not remember what wire right now because I am at the computer but I will check in a bit and re-post and tell you what wire to hook up to.
