It's not the right filter, or it's not installed correctly.

Don't drive it until you get all the clamps closed.

you should be able to compare it to your old filter on the measurements (L/W) to see if it is the correct size. The depth as I recall is a bit different, but not so much that it wouldn't allow the filter box to close.

XOC is correct...don't drive until you get this resolved...unless you want a grasshopper or worse sucked into your combustion chamber. Good luck.

Make sure you DO NOT use the extra rubber gasket that comes with the filter. Other wise, it should fit a little more snug than the original, but should close fine. Make sure you have the filter centered in the airbox as well.

I've noticed on my truck that it seems easier to fit the filter into the top half of the airbox and then close it. Everything lines up perfectly when I do it that way.

Well I went to talk to the guy at the parts store, he pointed out that the instructions say (on the last line in small print) that is will only close with 2 clips. I checked the part number both at the store and on the web site, I guess ill trim it if i want all the clips to close, whice to me is the best thing. Or I might just return it and spend the extra cash on a new intake kit, you know the one that replaces the oem box. Thanks for your help.

I don't know why yours would only close with 2 clips, or why it would be written on the instructions. Do you have a 4 cyl?

I had the same problem with my Xterra. It just took some extra effort, but all of the air box clips latched properly.

The K&N filter gasket is a little thicker/harder than the stock filter gasket, hence the very snug fit. But once you do get it in there, it fits fine. I did have a problem with the lowest clip popping off, so I filed a very small "V" grove on the part where the clip touches the top portion of the air box, and I've never had a problem since.

All 4 of mine close with only a little extra effort.

BTW, the extra rubber pieces only come with one of the two variations of the part number. The -1 suffix doesn't have them, the -2 suffix does, or vice-versa. Same filter otherwise, one just comes with the extra bits to fit a different style airbox.
