Ehem..

I finally decided to get some power today, and got K&N airfilter.
Part number is correct, and every bit of install went ok, except one of clamps (lowest one) wont clip 8( It keep jumping off, no matter what. It doesnt do it with stock paper filter - it checked few times... Other 3 are in places.

Any magical hints? Or shall i just forget and leave it as it is?

Thanks for any advice (no i couldnt find it in search, i tried 8)).

====
BTW: I checked how X starts and idle is much better than with stock (initial roughness is gone, it goes under 1Krpm in few seconds after star).. Hooray.

Keep wiggling the filter around until it locks, you don't want to run it unless it's fully sealed.

BTW, you won't get any power out of just a K&N filter.

I bought one for my '02 X, and didn't have a problem with the airbox clamping together, as a matter of fact, it fit in there perfect...maybe the box is little different than the '02's....

Using a small file, make a small "V" groove on the plastic part the clip snaps on to. Mine hasn't moved since.

Thanks, Ian. I made N+1 attempt and finally managed to get it on.. Just on same moment when i was about to say "oh whatever" and put paper one back on 8).

I know i wouldnt get any serious improvement by airfilter alone - that would be far too easy way . I just want to see what all the fuss about airfilters 8) Exeprimental science...

Rickster43: naah.. i doubt they are different, i just think its my, my dumb luck and previous owners of truck (i got it for second owner, according to carfax report )

Thanks folkz.. Its on and kicking now..

The K$N seal is a little thicker than what the paper filters have so as you found out it's more critical to get it lined up properly. As long as it stays clipped the seal should compress some so it will be easier next time.

Same exact problem with the same clip. I let it sit overnight and it was able to clip it over. PITA

I installed my K&N yesterday, I am picked up a noticable change in power, even my girlfriend noticed it, and she could care less. I am going on a long trip today so I will check for any gas mileage changes
