Does anyone out there in Xterra land have a Nissan pet guard installed? We considered one until the parts dealer told us that it was a permanent installment--thus not allowing you to fold down the seats and put very large items in the entire rear of the X. I likey the idea of keeping all of our stuff ( and pets) secure in the cargo area, but don't like the restriction of only having the CARGO area for cargo!!

You can fold down the rear seats if you want.

It's permanent in that there are screws you have to remove to take it out, but you can put items under the cage with the seats down.

By the way, order it online from Xterrastore.com or Xterraparts.com and install it yourself. You'll save some $$$.

Drop me an e-mail if you have more questions.

Don't listen to the dealership.
Go to a Pet Store, they are deferent sizes much cheaper.
You can do it yourself!
It's easy to install and take out!

If you don't plan on putting huge items in the back that often, it is worth it to get the Nissan pet protector.

a) As Schlud said, there is ample room underneath the cage if you fold the seats down, and if you need to put sofa or a desk in the back, then it is only a few screws to take it out.

b) I have never, NEVER, seen a "generic" cage that didn't start to rattle, scratch up the interior, and become more of a head-ache than it is worth.

IMO, one item that is well worth the premium charged for it because it is an excellent fit and excellent quality. Combine it with the Nissan cargo protector and my two wet, muddy, crazy labs have not yet been able to ruin anything.

Yup. Tim is correct. The cage fits the unique roof line of your Xterra, and will not cause damage to the vehicle.

It's worth the $$$ along with the cargo protector if you haul dogs a lot.
