As discussed in yesterdays meeting. I will setup a hosting account with GoDaddy for the site. The details of which can be found at: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp

There are pros and cons with this arrangement.

Cons.
1. As I am setting it up in my employee account, if I suddenly become unemployed (Very unlikely) the site would go away very quickly.

2. As it is going to be setup in my employee account, I cannot provide the account login information for anyone else to login and setup email accounts or change any of the hosting settings.

Pros.

1. It's free.
2. If it breaks, I can get it fixed quickly
3. It comes with the same photo gallery found at: http://www.rinky.us/coppermine Just 1 click to install.
4. It's local, so it will be fast. Servers are located in Down Town Phoenix in a very large Data Center.

If this was something you wanted to pay for, rather than relying on me to remain employed at GoDaddy (I'll do my best - believe me) you could setup an account and pay under $8.00 a month if you purchase 12 months up front. For the 'Deluxe' 2GB plan. With a paid account, whomever wants to login and take charge of settings and email can do so.

So the choice boils down to:

1. Paid for $95.00 for the year. With full control by whomever is elected to do so.

2. Free in my employee account. Where I will need to set everything up.

If you go with the paid option, you could also transfer the domain name into the same account and have the domain and hosting all in the same place.

The choice is yours......

You are an incorporated club with due-paying members. pay the $95.

besides, if it's free you can't really complain if there are service issues...

Was anything decided on this? The Free account is setup and ready to go, if you decide to go with the Paid option, then I will need to cancel the Free one.

Since I've taken the lead on this issue, I say we go with the free account. That means you'll have to be co-responsible for helping maintaining the account settings (emails, subs, acct settings, etc.). I don't think we need to transfer the domain name at this time, but I see it's coming up for renewal in September and we can decide between now and then how we'll manage the account.

I have sent an email to Mike to start the ball roling and will get you the account info for you to start creating the email and settings.

Sounds good. I'll PM the FTP info to you, we can publish the site to the IP address, until the DNS is changed on the domain.

Get the email account info over to me, including Passwords you would like used on each account. I will then get them setup. Email account passwords can be changed by you guys by logging into the Webmail service that GoDaddy offers, so I can always just set them up with a default password if needed.

Rinky,
I just wanted to say Thank You. As I recall you haven't even been voted in yet and your willingness to help the Club is more than gracious.

No problem. Hopefully after your Gold mining trip I'll be considered for membership. Not gonna make the Triathalon unfortunately frown

IMO, we shoud go with the $95 a year account.

Plus, we can't just start going a head with the free account, because as far as i know we need to all vote on it at the next meeting. The purpose of this Topic is to just get the options out there.

I guess we'll wait until next month in that case, for this to be voted on. It's setup tho, so we have the free one if the vote goes that direction. It can easily be cancelled if you guys opt for the paid account.

I really think we need to get going on this. I like the site the way it is now however it should be taken care of by those who are in the club and have Xterra's. I am not trying to be exclusive because I will wheel with anyone who wants to wheel.

Rinky, we will be moving the hosting soon it is a matter of getting our finances finalized with our bank first. We won't be using the free account. We are a due paying club which in which the dues put towards things like this.

Where are we on this! I feel like we're dragging on this change that we can make right now! I understand some concerns were raised, but they might not be completely based on good solid information!

This is a good point. Are we close to getting this all figured out.

Don't think we are even close to getting it figured out! lol. Now we have to decide which 'Paid' service we are going to go with. GoDaddy is good, but they aren't the cheapest out there. Sometimes however you get what you pay for, so cheap isn't always best.
