Just got this in my inbox this morning. We had a great showing at the 4-peaks clean-up, let's get another good showing by AZXC/SWANKy at this one!

--------------------------

Howdy! Pass the info around--these are always a great representation
for 4-wheelers, and a fun run usually breaks out afterward!

Trail Clean-Up at Table Mesa
Saturday, April 19, 2008

If you enjoy the outdoors for hiking, mountain biking, 4-wheeling,
hunting or shooting, then you have probably shaken your head in disgust

when others dump trash at trailheads and across our deserts. Now is
your chance to help!

The Bureau of Land Management is hosting a public lands clean-up at
Table Mesa on Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 8 AM to noon. Event
sponsors include the Arizona Game and Fish Department, the Arizona
Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition (AZOHVC), and the Good Gun Foundation,
with additional event support from the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club,
Arizona Rock Rats, and Absolute Offroad.

The event starts at 8:00 AM with a safety orientation, and then
participants will spread out to various work areas. Wear long pants,
long-sleeved-shirt, heavy gloves, hat, sunscreen and eye protection.
Trash bags will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring
their own rakes, flat-head shovels and grab handles. Five-gallon
buckets with handles are also handy for collecting small debris and
broken glass. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water to drink!

Directions: From Phoenix, take I-17 north to exit #236. Exit and turn
left on the overpass, heading west. Follow road for approximately ½
mile. After the road turns to dirt, look for the wide trailhead on the
left.

Volunteer a few hours for a good cause. Keeping our public lands clean
ensures that we will be able to enjoy them for generations to come.

For questions, contact Mary Skordinsky, BLM Lead Outdoor Recreation
Planner, (623) 580-5586 or Nena Barlow, AZOHV Public Relations (928)
274-0570.

That is a great event at an area that really needs some help. Unfortunately, I'll be running in the Pat's Run that morning. Depending on how long the cleanup lasts, I may be able to show up around noon.

Ahh... I don't know about this one... I was out there last year... Spent about 5 hours cleaning (the Fronty still had its temp tags even and I still had the old X) and I couldn't even tell I was there.

This place is so bad I never went back.

BTW... BLM never picked up all the trash from out last cleanup at 4peaks. It was set fire latter that night. I have a pic I might post of all our hard work litterly up in flames because the forest service did not follow though.

I can't confirm anything till after the Frontier Build though. Depending on how it works out. That and we still need to get Lucky13 running before the Triathalon.

Well, just keep in mind that while we may not go there due to it's being dirty, it still could affect us all if they star closing places down because we can't keep them clean. And if we don't clean it, who will? Clearly not the people in charge of getting the trash out of the last cleanup. mad I belive the last I heard Lucky13 was considering his ECU as a suspect in the no spark issue. cool

Well dirty wasn't really my issue with the area... It's the poor care for fire arm safty in that area. I have some assult rifle rounds still that I found at the cleanup that "missed" everything and were full metal jackets.

While I was there some of the Jeep tour company guys informed me that a local militia uses that area for thier "practising" to the point that local authorities will not monitor the area.

So basically... That area scares me. Unless it is a 100% close down of the area like it was last time... I won't even consider going.

BTW... As soon as the sherif left (and we were yet to leave) you could already here the assult weapons firing.

Unfortunately, the garbage at 4 Peaks burned later that day. FYI, the Forest Service was scheduled to pick it up the following Monday.

For this cleanup, the Good Gun Club is sposoring the event; they were also involved in the 4 Peaks cleanup. The OHV Ambassadors will also be there. They are a volunteer group (that I am a member of) that works with AZ State Parks, BLM, and Forest Service.

I am sure this area will be closed to shooting while the cleanup it taking place (just like it was at 4 peaks).

IMHO, helping to keep our trails clean (and open) should be a priority for every OHV user. I encourage our members and prospective members to take part in this event.

Sounds like the same cleanup I was involved with last year.

And as a participant of several cleanups... I also encourage others as well... I just got a bad taste in my mouth for this one.

And 4peaks still had shooters BTW.

Well, the Pat's Run starts at 7:00 am, so I should be able to run that race and get to the cleanup at Table Mesa by 9:00 am at the latest. Hope to see you all there.

Ok AZ-Ted... If we get Sheila's lift done and she is driving with no major problems we will bring out her rig to show it off and help at the cleanup.

She can't get too extream afterwards... She will only have 2hi (possibly 2low) and probably a locker mod and maybe my tires (talk about a sacrifice).

So come over tomorrow and help us out so we can get her up and wheeling. smile

I have confirmed with Mary Skordinsky (from the BLM), that the area will be closed to shooting during the cleanup.

Randy, I can't wait to see the Frontier out on the trail.

Don't forget to come by Cabelas by the Cardnals stadium and say hi to those of us that are working. We will have a booth and some of the Argos out. It will be nice to see a familiar face. 9am to 3pm

For those of you that are coming to the cleanup on Saturday, I just got word that the BLM will be feeding us (pizza) at noon.

I was at fourpeaks the morning after the pile of trash was set fire. It was nasty.

Its disgusting what people do out there.

I will see if I can make it, but it depends on whether I have to work or not.

I would like to join the Arizona Xterra Club but it seems theres always something going on for me during your meetings and events.

Hey AZ-Ted... Is anyone actually going other than you? We are on a quest to find rubber for the new rims for the Fronty so if the showing will be small we might be skipping this one to get tires.

Last I heard... T-Ray, Karlover007, Onix and Chris are all out.

I'll post an update to the Fronty thread of what all is going on with it.

Yeah, it doesn't look like AZXC will have much a presence at this event. I am going because I am in the OHV Ambassador program, and this is an event that I have committed to.

I am going to skip the Pat's Run, so I will be at the cleanup by 8:00. I am bringing my quad trailer, so I can help haul out a bunch of trash back to the main road (just like at 4 peaks).
