Ok, so my X has been in storage for the most part for the last 6 months or so. Basically I've had all the hoses etc replaced multiple times, and I'm still losing radiator fluid. I can drive about 200 miles after filling the radiator up before it dries up again.

I've overheated a bunch over the life of the Xterra, and once had to replace my transmission and have the engine taken apart and fixed because water was getting in there or something. That was a few years ago.

Anyway, I never find water pooled underneath the X or anything, so not sure if its burning up somewhere or what. But I'm looking to just take it in and get it fixed somewhere. Recommendations?

Thanks!
Mark

If you want me to take a look, I'm willing, but you have to bring it over here.

You can check the basics like, water in the oil, exhaust smell coming out of radiator, bad radiator cap, hole in overflow tank, etc. Mostly the stuff I'd look at anyways.

Good luck!

Mark,

Check this page out and then investigate for leaks again. It may be bubbling out somewhere and then dries up before it hits the ground or moving into another area and slowly destroying other parts of your truck.
Cooling system leaks

1.Check for stains around the water pump.
2.Check transmission fluid and oil.
3.Get a pressure test on the cooling system
4.Get a compression test to check for a head gasket leak.

my best guess, head gasket leak... only explanation of where the water has gone... check your oil too for a white tinge.. if antifreeze mixes with oil it kinda looks like milk.. and are you using water or antifreez, might just be boiling off...

Hey guys, thanks for the tips/offers. I've been screwing with this issue for at least a year now, its been to a shop 4 or 5 times like I said, and had all the hoses and stuff replaced. (And the radiator is about 3 years old) Anyway, I'm done with that shop as they totally hosed my other car so mostly I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on somewhere to take the X. I assume the dealership is way overpriced even if we get some discount.

Someone has to have a good experience with a local shop somewhere??

Thanks!

NOSUP4U,
I just read your list of mods/upgrades and it states you replaced /"upgraded the radiator"...

did you have this problem prior to replacing the radiator?
Do you have the old radiator to reinstall or did you ever try it?

Sorry I do not have a shop to suggest.

Try Shumans on Fiesta in Tempe. Right at Rio Salado and the 101.

Onix has a hookup at the shop next door to him (litterly)...

I don't think Onix has anymore favors over there, but I'm sure they will treat you well. They diagnosed Lucky13s truck. The tech I talked to over there seemed like he knew what he was doing too.

Drop Onix or First Class a PM and see if he can get you the name of the place.

I will say yes to Whiteys also..they are good, my mechanic greg retired from working there, that is the only reason I dont take things there anymore. They are top notch, and have great prices.

Thanks Wally. I took it in today, they seemed like good people. Hopefully it isn't anything too major, although I expect it is. We'll see...
