A friend of mine was out of his mind when he bought his 2001 Xterra SE. See he only got it with 2WD and not 4WD, I have no idea what he was thinking at the time, but at anyrate that is what he has. He wanted me to post a question asking if a 4x2 Xterra could handle some of the trails at GOX 3. We are both going, and if his Xterra can handle some of the trails then we will take both, if not then we will just take mine.

carefull with the 2wd/4x4 subject... it can get touchy... i would know.

depends on your buddy id say... i know Jackel ran some trails last year... however jackel is not your average driver and his truck is not stock...

I plan to attend GOX... However even if i do bring my truck(i may fly out) i will be taking ians offer and riding along with him on trails... My truck can sit happily in camp...

I just dont think it is fair that if i get in over my head that it should slow down the entire group

2WD Xterras are not recommended at GOX.

They damage the trails due to wheel spin, create a lot of dust, and hold up traffic. Only one trail would be doable in a stock 2WD Xterra, but without a transfer case and lower gearing, it will take a beating.

This is correct my X is far from Stock and I even lost my spool in the X. For GOX3 I hope to have a 4WD by then (maybe) if not I will be riding with Ivan the whole time and keeping my X off the trails.

Found out that Enterprise in Phoenix Rents 2002 4WD Xterra's. I could rent one put my shackles, my 31's and a torsion lift for Gox and then change everything back after GOX and return it. Or maybe Not. I think riding with Ivan and having the most shingles per Xterra record would be better.

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever thought of inviting Bill Fries (aka CW McCall) out to the gathering so he can do a rendition of "Convoy" since you'll no doubt have a couple of long such vehicle trains out there. :p After all, he was the mayor of Ouray at one time and, I believe, still lives there.

He wrote Black Bear Road, Four Wheel Drive, and The Silverton as well, which are about the San Juan area.

No, I haven't bothered to contact him. Still waiting for Nissan to invite Lenny Kravitz to GOX.

In a town as small as Ouray, odds are good you'll bump into him at a store, but probably not recognize him.
