I've been checking the weather on AOL and noticed flash flood warnings for Ouray. Does that affect any of the trails we'll be going on? eek

Don't believe anything AOL has to say laugh

It rains and snows a lot up in the San Juans, and the old mining roads haven't washed away in 120 years, so I'm sure they will be fine.

The "10 day" says:

81 high
48 low

pretty much across the board for the GOX week so far, oh yeah!! Do you people realize how nice that's going to be for the AZ, Texas, Florida, and other southern states people going?

YES!!!

I've been watching the ten day outlook for Ouray a few days now on weather.com , and it's been dead wrong. It'll forcast 85 for the following day, and I'll check back and it will end up being 71 or so that day. It's saying 85 degrees for August 28th, and the all time record high for that date was 86 back in '54. Prepare for cooler weather.

You may have a more accurate forecast at Accuweather.com . It looks like it'll be a bit chilly, perhaps below the freezing mark. Snow anyone? Are campfires out of the question due to the whole "tinderbox" thing you guys have going out west?

It's in the 70's here in the Seattle area! Only gets down to the high 40's at night. Sounds like the same weather as South West Colorado!

Yes, shorts year round..........

The low temperature for each night in the mountains usually hits about 4AM. If you're camping, you may get chilly.

The sun doesn't hit until almost 9AM due to the steepness of the canyon walls, so don't lay in your tent waiting for it, we'll be off wheeling without you laugh

Without moisture, there won't be any snow, and I don't expect any unless at high altitude. If it does, it won't accumulate enough to make a difference (unless a huge storm comes in).

Here's Engineer Pass in September 1999, after a small front came through. 10 minutes later it was sunny and warm.

Campfires really haven't been an issue for most of the Summer. The San Juans have been rained on steadily for the last 2 months, and fire danger is very low. The rain also washed out quite a few sections of trail, so it should be more fun.

All in all, I think it's going to be a beautiful week in the San Juans.

Rain, hail, snow, or whatever, as long as it's not 110 degrees it will be OK by me. You guys probably don't realize how good that picture of the snow looks to me right now, it's been over 112 degrees for the last two days and I don't remember a day under 100 in the last month or so. I'm ready for a break, oh darn, I might have to put a jacket on. Jacket hell, I might have to bring a parka! laugh

Count me in on the earmuffs! My nail beds turn blue if it drops below 78 degrees! That's ok though, we'll have the dogs in case of a two-dog-night!

Cool.
Weather in Ouray is almost identical (give or take a few degrees) as it is in Santa Fe. Not surprising given the similar elevation, I suppose.

You guys from Texas will totally dig it -
It's like FREE air-conditioning!

Rob's wardrobe tips:

Layer up;
Layer down.

Hey!
No pun intended. wink
