I tried searching for this topic but found nothing. I know that I'm not the only person that has this problem...right? I've had my swing-away bumper for a few years and have not been able to squelch the constant rattling that comes from it. The rattling comes from the pin on the gate through the locking plate. It seams like there should be some sort of rubber bushing that can fit on there to deaden the sound but I can't seam to find one. Has anybody had this problem and do you know anything to fix it?

I have the same problem and hate it. I haven't found a solution yet as I am extremely lazy. Your best bet would be to call calmini.

I think its just the way that they're made, everyone has that rattle in their Calmini.

Just enjoy it, like tire roar.

For the rattle, I replaced the threaded bolt that the knob is on with a longer one. The bolt now goes all the way through the pin. When I close the latch, I give the knob a twist and the bolt wedges the pin in place.
The other problem was the movement of the arm when going over bumps, so I put on a second clamp to stop that.

Where did you get the latch Richard? Do you have anymore pics or info on the jerry can holder as well? I've been wanting to do this with mine.

The clamp for the swing arm is from www.reidtool.com part number TC-331-SS

And while I have my receipts out, for the Jerry can holder,
the part number for the clamp is SC-72607 and SC-7207 from reidtool.com

Jerry Cans from www.awdirect.com

I have finally found a solution that works. Go to HomeDepot and in the aisle with the "furniture pads to protect hardwood floor" you might find a circular type that has double sided tape. Place one on the bumper, one on the swing arm. When you go to latch it, it will require some extra force to compress the pad. This will keep the rattle away and when you open the swing arm it will stay attached.

I can post pix. Total cost - $3.

I have that same latch to put on my KMA for the same purpose, but have not gotten around to doing it. They can also be found at mcmaster.com, but you'll have to find it on the site cuz I'm too lazy!

I just got a Shrock Bumper...so it just worked.

laugh

The Shrock has two (Delrin?) pads that the swing arm nestles into, and a spring loaded latch that levers the arm tightly into the pads, so it can't rattle, even over rocks.

It would be an easy mod to add to other bumpers I'm sure.

The furniture slider idea above is essentially re-creating the concept, and should do it I think.

I made the holder myself and got it powder coated. It is hard to tell from the photos but there is also rubber sheeting between the can and holder, I hate rattles and the cans are expensive.

I don't want to hijack this thread so I started a new one for Jerry Can holder here in 4wd section.

That latch is the same one Skid Row uses. Nice can holder option too.

The pads are Nylon.

My Shrock bumper doesn't work. Jim thinks he sent me the wrong tire rack for my bumper. I have to do some cutting to get it to fit right. Right now I have it mickey mounsed to work since I was installing it the day before ECXC.

Wow! Thanks for all of the help. I'm glad I'm not the only one that hears the rattles.

Fastdrmr : I would like to see some pictures of the quickfix from Home Depot if you can just to see how you rigged it.
