I don't have my stuff on yet. But another guy here on the forum really put his skids and front bumer to some use and abuse this weekend. I have seen it first hand and I am impressed by the strength and quality of these products. Keep it up Jim!!

I'll throw some thanks out his way too... this past weekend my X with just a simple 1.5" lift and no lockers ran a couple of the advanced trails out at harlan, KY. Needless to say, I was pounding those skids all weekend long.

a guy and his young daughter on the VAXC board is alive today after his shrock sliders and bumper took a t-bone impact at 60mph from an f-350. this is some tough shit. he said he woudnt be here if his sliders and bumper hadnt held up to that on his frontier. mad props to mr. jim!

I was supposed to get my sliders today but when I check the tracking number, there has not been any activity since Saturday morning when it left Dallas. Hope they didnt get lost. :rolleyes: I guess I'll wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Got my skids and my bumper yesterday. Works of art. Jim, your work is sick. Perfect welds, nice laser cuts on the steel. Ridiculous.They will be on next weekend after I POR-15 them. THANK YOU!!!

Yep. Just let them sit outside all week. With this drizzle today it should be no problem.

From the POR-15 site:

"New steel is coated with a protective oil finish at the mill. This finish must be removed before using POR-15 or Metal-Ready. Clean metal first with POR-15 Marine-Clean, then rinse with water and dry."

Yup. I have the marine clean and the POR-15.

Scrap the Marine Clean and buy a gallon of Metal Ready. It will clean and leave a zinc-oxide coating to let the por15 stick. Or you could clean them up real good and then let them sit outside for a week, but that's a real pain in the butt.

I have both. Did the marine clean last night, going to do metal ready tonight and then paint on Wed, Thur, and Fri, mount up on Sat.

Count on a few hours. We put mine on in about 4.5 hours or so BUT... that included painting, letting it dry and getting lunch.

If they are gonna be painted already count on a couple of hours. Drilling new holes is a little time-consuming.

For preping the skids couldn't you use Solvent to get the oil off of them??

Yes, but it depends what type of solvent. Some, like mineral sprits, tend to leave an oily residue. While it may work fine, the paint may tend to peal. My choice is acetone, but then again, I don't use POR on new, bare metal.

The Marine Clean is a solvent that POR15 sells and suggests. It removes all oil and grim. It's pretty nasty stuff though.

Oh, and don't get any of the metal ready on concrete, it will stain and never come off (or at least it hasn't come off my driveway).

Don't forget. If you are using straight POR-15 (the black stuff), it will turn dull with exposure to the elements and especially the sunlight. They warn you about that on the website and on the can of POR-15.

Aside from that, it's great stuff. I used a pint of it sealing the floorboards of my daughter's '71 VW.
