Is there any advantage to having recovery hooks in the rear over using the tow bar with a recovery shackle? I have two recovery hooks
in the front, both Steel horse 3 hole and tow bar in the back w/frame stiffners, used with the recovery shackle. Hint for putting the drivers side hook on: Put on a latex glove. Super glue the nut to the finger tip you will be using to touch the end of the bolt. Much easier that way. Didn't take five minutes to do both sides this way. And, of course, use blue lock-tite on the bolts.

My opinion is that the tow bar(trailer hitch?) would be a better recovery point then a single tow hook located on the frame. The Tow bar is using the whole frame, whereas the tow hook uses just one point. The only thing is that a hitch limits your rear angle of departure.

I had to work to get those steelhorse hooks in by boring the holes oval. (For the stock location) Basically what I had to do.

Alpha Wolf,

If you want to tow stuff, then get a 2" receiver hitch, otherwise it is a pain in the @#$.

The hitch decreases the exit angle and seems like it hits on every rock in the desert. I tow stuff so the hitch doubles as a recovery point.

I think the argument about which is stronger, tow hitch or hooks, misses the finer point... If you bust either, I hope you have a good hospitalization plan.

See ya on the Mohave Road,
Doc
