#98532 - 31/05/06 04:47 AM Anyone have an unbiased opinion on the Powertrax locker?

Seems the search button likes to bring up a few questions from the stone age in regarding the Powertrax auto locker.

Some of the replies were "It's for an open diff only" , "They make them for Open/LSD" ect.

The reason why I am asking is I am not going to do any rock crawling, just some moderate off-roading, Take yesterday as an example, I got the truck on two wheels (drivers front and passenger rear off the ground). Honestly it was quite amusing and I was laughing with the truck until I figured out it was laughing at me. so my buddy jumped on the back of the truck and rocked it until the rear tire bit the ground and off we went.

Should I go for this sub $300 locker? Pros and Cons welcome.

Thanks!!!

In your search, did you miss the fact that it can't be installed in an Xterra in the first place?
It's only available for the 31-spline version of the H233B diff. This was only used in the 86.5-97 Hardbody truck, 87-95 Pathfinder, and the V6 99 through 9/00-production regular-cab Frontier truck. All Xterras have the 33-spline version.

Short of finding a rear diff from the above Frontier and swapping the axle shafts and third-member into your housing, you can't run a LockRight.

Then I guess I was mislead by the site that is selling these.

Edit: And the PDF.

Nissans including, Hardbody V6 Pickup 86-96, Pathfinder with V6 86-96, and Xterra for 2000-01. It is possible the locker may fit on newer model Xterras

says h233b 00-01 Xterra.

nothing for the front thought.

So, who wants to be the $235 guinea pig?

It also says its an LSD, but calls it a locker in the same description...so, its a bit confusing.

Also, it doesn't list the spline count for the set up in the PDF, and seems to indicate that the hard body is the exact same diff, even calling it a 31 spline set up.

?

Lock rite's worked well in the Jeeps, a light duty lunch box locker option.

It does mention its only for the open diff cases, so I have the LSD case ...so I'd be out of the guinia pig race.

Trust me, there is no such thing as a LockRight for a 33-spline H233B rear axle. We've been clamoring for one for ages, petitions etc. and it hasn't happened. http://www.xterraownersclub.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000060

Even Calmini listed one on their site for quite some time. More recent confirmation it's a bust: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/naxc/vpost?id=42338

The fact that a Richmond/Powertrax spec sheet lists the 00-01 Xterra as an application doesn't mean much. Superwinch has been listing manual hubs for a Nissa 31-spline front axle application for ages, but there has never been a 31-spline front axle on any Nissan. They're 27 or 28 spline since 1986.

i guess sometimes you want so bad that you will believe anything... think of all the locked xterras... i bet they would sell 50 in the first week.

edit. then again, that might be about all they sold...

Welp, I guess we can lay this thread to rest with the others. I greatly appreciate the prompt information and help from everyone here.

Too bad it was one of those "Too good to be true" deals I saw.

Thanks!
