Ok I know that the X is not a sports car, its a truck. And not that I will ever go over 100 mph very often unless I have $ to burn on a ticket. BUT, I have experienced the engine cutting off or at least the accelerator when hitting 100 mph.
That is unacceptable when I bought a vehicle with a supercharger. I mean, why sell it as supercharged and show a speedometer registering 120 or 140 (I can't remember) and then make it cut off at 100 mph!!?!???!!!

Am I the only one that has experienced this?

Boy did you just open the door to flaming and disdain. I hope you have asbestos underwear because the high speed in an Xterra comments always attract a lot of attention.

Mostly bad.

You ARE kidding aren't you? If you aren't then you don't know much about cars it seems.

I don't think there are too many cars left out there without some kind of electronic speed limiter on them. Other than the pure safety aspect of it, the tires are a good reason for this. If your tires are only rated up to 100 mph, do you really want to go faster and have one fall apart?

My 2000 Pathfinder had one right around 113. Before I get flamed, this was done on the Bonneville Salt Flats so no lectures please.

My '96 Acura Integra didn't have one, but with the way the stearing felt around 130 I didn't really want to go any faster.

Actually the factory tires are "T" speed rated - constant speeds to 118 mph.

Specs found at:
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/rugged_trail_ta.pdf

This topic has been killed before. The governor is there to protect the masses...even the euro-sports cars have governors at 155 mph, regardless of tire specification.

Greggovader: Most everyone here is in the opinion that driving this fast is morally imprudent.

I agree that the X should not be going fast, but the cars that are meant to go fast, don't you think that their limiters are kinda dumb?

I mean, the M5 or E55 AMG has limiters set at 155. Yeah, if you crash at 156 you'll be dead before you know it. But if you crash at 154, then you'll just walk away, right?

It's the same on some motorcycles. The Hayabusa and ZX12r were both limited after year 2000 so they don't go over 190 or something. Just because you don't exceed 190 on a motorcycle does not meant you are not going to die! When the limiter is set at such high speeds, what's the point? You are going to die anyways if you are stupid enough to try those speeds outside of an oval, so why not make the death clean and fast laugh ?

You might consider yourself lucky... some of us only get up to 93/94 before we get cut off... smile

Although the last time this topic got brought up, one guy did claim he did 113 or 120 or something before he hit the limiter...

(Let the flaming begin!)

Apparently my Frontier doesn't have one (2000 model) because I hit 108 one time. However, I would never do it again, or even think about doing it again. The whole truck starts shaking and struggling from wind resistance. Now I stick to about 80 or less.

As per the supercharger:

It's there to give a boost in horsepower. It is not there for speed. Some deisels have turbos, but they're not there for speed either.

I have a 2001 Xterra. I've got it up to 95 easily. I'm actually surprised at how fast I can get it. I think he's got more in him too. Note: I have no mods at all, stock engine.

Uh......sorry....
I'll just go crawl back in my hole now and be happy with doing less than 100 mph.

Just wondering if I was the only one who noticed this. Should have known better.

And no I didnt have on my asbestos underwear and it sure did hurt.

as far as the bikes the speed limiters are set at 300kph or 180-181 the speed was set by the euro`s and must not go over that speed or they cannot be imported .the speed limiters are electronic and as anything where theres a will theres a way.there are a few companys that make a bypass for the govenor not that i ever would drive over 55mph either in my x,my bike or my sled

Even though my SC'd Fronty shuts off at 101mph, it's enough to burn those little ricer cars with their huge euro wings!! Don't worry, I have tires that are Z rated up till 150mph.

You know this is all Bull@#$T. My Xterra cuts off at about 94MPH and I found it to be one of the most dangerous things they could do to a car.
I've never driven a car or truck that didn't let you get to at least 100.

And let me tell you when you driving on a 2 lane highway ( 1 lane each way) through the deserts of California on which EVERYONE is doing at least 85 and you get behind an 18 wheeler and go to pass him for the first time and before you can get in front of him to cut back over the F#@#CKING Piece of S$#@T Engine Starts to cut out and the oncoming traffic is getting closer and closer but now you have other cars behind you trying to pass too and there honking wondering why your passing this big rig so slow that your going to get everyone killed. When, and only when you do that and don't have a f*3cking heart attack, then you, and only then, you can tell me that a Governor is a good Idea.

For a supposed Tough Truck It has the weakest engine out there and I have the V6. My 2.0 liter Passat had more power on it's slowest day and now that VW has a 4x4 I'll be getting it as soon as my lease on this stupid Nissan is up.

OK, I see your point there, but if you're doing 85 on a 2 lane highway and you are trying to pass an 18 wheeler who's doing, what... maybe 65, you shouldn't have to get up to 100 to pass him.

I can see getting up to maybe 80 (or so) at the "peak" of the pass, but if you can get from his speed up to 100 in the length of an 18 wheeler you'd better be more worried about blowing up your tranny than your governor cutting in, because you'd have to have your tach redlined...

I mean how fast do you really need to go to pass a truck? I used to live in that same wide-open desert, and I'd set the cruise at 75 and be plenty happy. When I came upon a "slow" big-rig doing 55-65, I'd just blow right past him like he was standing still, getting up to no more than 80 or so in the process...

Crusso - have fun in the new Twat-Rag VW. [Wave] If your X sucks so bad, why not break lease? I'm sure VW will help you out since the cost of the touareg is probably double that of the X. Better yet, get a CAR! and leave trucks for those who appreciate them...

Hmm.

Put a TYPE R badge on your Xterra and you won't have this problem anymore.

Idiot. Learn how to pass.

Crusso- quit yer bitchin. The X is an awesome ride meant for the true truck enthusiast, not the Autobahn. BTW- good luck with your Touareg.

I was on vacation last week, missed this one!

Anyway, as usual, there's NEVER any good reason to do 90+ on any US highway, EVER. ALL vehicles should be limited to 90 or so if you ask me.

As for crusso, you need to have your head examined. You simply don't pass if there's not MORE THAN adequate room with oncoming traffic, and ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH to pass behind you at the same time should be shot on sight. One vehicle at a time is allowed to pass, and you may only pass one vehicle at a time. Quit your bitching and familiarize yourself with common sense and the law.

Live fast, die young..
Oh yeah..

Problem is - you can take other people with you, if you behave like that. Brent is right - most of highways in states, and anywhere else , except for Germany, simply arent designed for high speeds.. i mean face it - catching pot hole on road at speed of 90+ m/h isnt good thing to happen. Specially on truck with high center of weight.
