As anybody put a throttle body on there X and if so, did you notice a big difference? You can see the mods I have put onto my X already in my profile. Thanks.

I'm sitting here on the computer and I'm only clicks away from ordering a Throttle body spacer made by AIRAID. I've already installed their intake on my 2003SE 4X2. That intake laugh in conjunction with the flowmaster 40 series muffler and 2.5" piping already makes a marked improvment. I figure "Screw it" and go for the throttle body. I'll let you know how that works out.

I still fail to see how this thing works on a port-injected vehicle. It's supposed to introduce some turbulence into the airstream (like the Tornado piece of junk) and lengthen the time it has to mix before reaching the cylinders by the thickness of the spacer, but on our port-injected engines the latter isn't going to happen and the former is a bunch of hooey all around.

How bad is an annoying "whine" described by the Reagan Performance to your ears?

I've read about the whine from the installed spacer. Before I got my AIRAID intake I only had my modified 40 series flowmaster exhaust. I figured I'd give the tornado thing a try with my stock intake. I didn't notice much or any improvement. Later while installing my AIRAID I decided to scrap the Apple chopper looking thing. As things are right now I couldn't be more impressed with the suck and blow of my X. I'm so close to ordering the spacer I can taste it. When i do I'll let you all know.

I like the winding sound on mine.
Its also about twice louder with a straight alum intake and AEM filter.

I love turning peoples heads when its WOT at 4500rpm. people wonder whats under the hood.
the pics below is what it looks like without the heat shield I built for it.

First off, you can get the ugrade through Reagan Performance for $300... second, you have to send in your ECU and they will install it for you... unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that has done this... you might try contacting Reagan and talk to them, to see if they've done it for anyone, or if they know someone... *edit* welcome to the club! Xoldie, How did it affect your gas mileage? Wouldn't assume it would improve, but did it decrease?

I don't find the whine annoying at all. It's definately noticable but I like what its done for my truck. I would do it again if I had the option.

Uh, it's been proven that throttle body spacers do nothing to improve performance.

It's just the placebo effect.

Increasing the 14 inch long intake tract by half an inch isn't going to do anything but lighten your wallet.

Jtaoj ; The gas mileage has not really changed either way. I've actually not checked it since all the mods, my bad. I'm empty right now, so I will let you know. It may have gone down, but only because my foot has gotten heavier since we got all the toys put on. It's too fun being a kid! Supercharger from Alpine Performance is next! Jet Performance Site

I disagree with xoc about the TBS. I get slightly better gas milage with it and my truck can take hills easier.

Liv,

Your AEM intake system is that part #21-8500? I was looking into getting one for my 2002 X but it is only listed for the 2002 Frontier V6.

Here's that webpage:
http://www.aempower.com/truck/product_intake_app.asp

Thanks

Like most people have said, this is crap. Do a seach on any board - Ford, Chevy, Toyo..and you'll hear the same thing. TBS's are supposed to create a kind of "helix" effect. Probably works on a carb or TBI type engine, but not the Xterra's (or most modern engines). For one, the intake manifold has a restriction at the plenum divider and the air must make a few turns before entering the combustion chamber. So any "helix" effect that is created is quickly flattened.

You'll feel the same thing with one of these as if you went out and filled your tank with Premium gas and said, "You know, I can really feel the performance increase in this super unleaded gas. My X really hauls ass now."

Well, either someone is slipping me some heavy drugs or I DID notice a difference after I installed my throttle body spacer on Friday. Definitely notice am improvement when accelerating. After I get my boost gauge installed, the smaller pulley is next.

I like my TBS, the whine reminds me of the turbo charger on my 84 200 sx turbo

If anyone is interested, AEM does have an intake system that fits the S/C X (#21-8500)and non-S/C X (same part #) laugh As soon as I get the funds I think I'm going to get one. It is a little more pricer than the K&N Aircharger (#63-1052), though frown .
