I've got about 16k on my X and it's a great truck. I use it to pull my 2007 Trailer that weighs about 5040LBS. I'm taking it to the dealer for the first time for maintenance. What should I tell the mechanic to do to get the engine to it's full towing capability? It does struggle going over the mountains on 7% grades for 5 miles if I don't get right into the power band before the incline starts. It's completely stock and I just switched to Mobile 1 synthetic oil. I also do a lot of beach driving and surf fishing. I may have all I can get out of this great engine, I just don't know for sure. Great forum BTW.

My 06 was a bit doggy pulling an isuzu last February. It might have something to do with the addition to the house you were pulling behind you, thats alot of weight and alot of wind resistance as well. Plus, check the trailer brakes to make sure they were not dragging.

It has a WD hitch and Prodigy Brake controller. Checked and adjusted the Trailer brakes and they're fine. I've pulled it about 5K miles so far and the X pulls it like a champ most of the time. It's just the mountains that's the kicker.

What elevation? Once you get above about 5k feet, its going to run differently. The air thins out and robs power.

Just be glad you don't have the 3.3L engine. I guess you could add a cold air intake and maybe a cat back exhaust for some marginal HP gains. You are towing at the max that the X is rated for, so you can't expect miracles - especially when going uphill.

Personally, I would not tell the dealer that I was towing a house behind my X.

Yeah, the X is only rated for 5K lbs. so you definitely are pushing the envelope there. I would say that you wont get any better results than you are getting now, even if you do add an intake and exhaust... time to upgrade to a supercharger!!! LOL

I was told buy a couple guys that it couldn't pull my trailer. Bull Crap. I knew what it could do, been going to truck pulls since I could drive. I'm only 40# over and there's a lot of comfort zone in that 5000# max. towing. Esp. w/ the OR.

The 3.3 wouldn't be able to do it I don't think.

I have been pulling my trailer which has a 3840 dry weight without a problem. At least that is what I thought until my rear differential went out a couple of weeks ago. It may only be a coincedance, but that is the only thing I have been doing to stress the truck. I haven't even had it off road yet, and it only has 12,000 miles on it. [Uh Oh !]

Well, as you may know, the dry weight and the real weight can be way different. I stopped at Flying J on the last trip and 5040# for the trailer is what was on the ticket. You may have been too far over but, a scale is your only option to find out.
