I've seen both the K&N intake and the Nismo one and both are well designed. So I say stick to one of them.. wink

But I believe the Nismo one is slightly higher in price but then again it's your money.. wink

If I were to do it again, I would just get a drop in K/N filter for the stock airbox.

I have the AEM. I like it alot. I tried the K&N drop in, and tried the volant. This is the better of them. The hardware, the instructions, the parts are all top notch. I did not have to rig anything like I did on the volant. Go with AEM. The pic of the NIsmo looks like the AEM with out the $$$$

I'm happy with my Airaid.
I think it was about $160

Go with ebay. I bought one of there for my S-10 for 40 dollars and it works just as well as the 150+ dollar intakes.

ya, that exhaust on ebay looks pretty good... But 20 horsepower? I'd be surprised to see a 10 hp increase on the S/C version, and maybe a 5 on the N/A. But anyway, I'm sure that with a 2.3" pulley and that intake you could probably pull off 50 horses, which is what I plan to do.

But anyway, that intake looks good, mostly because all the piping (from what i can see) is metal. From what I hear, plastic piping isn't so good for an intake because it bends in on itself under alot of pressure (which makes sense), especially for a S/C engine that WILL be producing alot of vacuum. Now I'm seriously considering to bid on that thing...

did both and the difference is night and day from the drop in filter and the filter box replacement. And about Nismo, the only difference is stainless steel over hardened plastic and 150.00, your choice....

TO BE HONEST WITH YOU I HAD A COLD AYR INTAKE ON MY 1997 ACURA INTEGRA IT SOUNDED GOOD BUT WHEN I HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH THE HIGHWAY IT WAS SO ANOING . [Huh?] [Huh?] [Huh?] mad

The Volant seems to give my X more low end power, but nothing on the top end. I sounds great, although I put rubber weather seal around the top cover for the winter to keep salt out and it is a bit quieter now. I will be taking the seal off in a week or two when the snow starts to go away.

I like the way it looks and the way it fits in the engine compartment.

By the way the Volant is only noisy when you put your foot in it, but then it talks to you!

Ok so The volant/k&n/nismo/AEM look preaty good but has anyone tried to do a dino test to see the gain on HP.And i know that some of the HP numbers that you see on the manufactures web site`s are phony.

Thanks in advance.

NO dyno results yet, but I'm planning on taking dyno readings at some point. I'll post numbers for anyone interested...just not sure how long it will be until that happens. K&N seems to be pretty reliable with numbers, and they will send you dyno results if you call them and ask. They sent me results off a 2000 SE...doesn't help too much since I have an '03, but they were pretty straightforward when I called them and told me what might change the performance improvement you actually can notice. Good luck getting real results...dyno testing is expensive for those of us that don't have connections or our own garage (someday, dammit...someday). [Wave]

I have the Volant and it took about an hour to install. That includes have to do a little customizing to seal it up to the snorkel. I also added this diamond plate cover so I could seal the top off better

Daggerdoggie,

I talked to some guys about the Volant intake with a snorkle. Some felt that because the snorkle is restricting the intake, it makes the Volant no better than using the stock air box.

What are your feelings on this? Did you see a gain in power? Do you wish you had just left the stock airbox in place instead of using the Volant?

I don't know what they mean about the snorkel being restrictive. It has a larger diameter than the intake itself. Also, theoretically, at highway speeds, it drives in more air, but I can't say that it makes a difference. The stock box and all the crap that goes with it is quite restrictive. I did notice a gain in power with the Volant installed, but I cannot prove that and I seemed to get better gas mileage. However, since putting on 33's any gain was sucked up by the bigger tires. I am very happy with the Volant and the snorkel combination.
