Im just looking around for a new muffler.....
does anyone have this one, http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop...b9f6c5e6bd02580 or something similar?
Im not expecting too much of a performance gain, im more interested in a nice deep sound......I've heard good things about flowmaster, anybody have any sound clips or suggestions.........

Thanks........

I know several people with flowmasters on their classic muscle cars. Their website has sound clips for different vehicles.
http://flowmastermufflers.com/
You can find better prices on ebay for these mufflers though. My friend paid 60+ shipping for a 40 seriers for his camaro.

I picked up my 40 series off of E-bay for about $45 shipped. It was brand new. Still sealed in the original box with all the paper work and decals.

I love the sound of it on my 00' X.

I'm also looking for a new muffler. I was gonna buy a mangaflow the other day but it was only 14" long. And the stock muffler on the X is way longer. So I decided to wait...and shopped around on the net...and it seems that flowmaster mufflers are all short as well. Now I can get a magnaflow in a round style in 18" long. The in/outlet that we need is 2 1/4" right? Not sure...I really like the sound of the flowmaster tho. They sound awesome!!!

I recently slapped the Magnaflow on and am happy with it although I wish it were a little louder than it is. I keep flirting with the idea of switching it out for the flowmaster though and probably will end up doing so.....

I believe the major differences between the 40 and the 50 series is the sound volume they produce. The 40 is louder...
I used 2.25" piping from the cat back. That included 2.25" in/out on the muffler. I figured since Calmini and the other performance companies use this diameter that it would work just as well. Only cost me $80 for installatiuon. So total cost was around $130 compared to a manufactured system that would cost $225+.

Just to confirm what everyone else said, the only difference between the different series, is the tone of the exhaust. See the link below

I believe that most aftermarket mufflers are going to be smaller than your stock one, but this can be fixed with some new hangers and some extra piping.

Hey there RI Xterra,

On the pic, one of the X's has dual exhaust. Where the heck did you get that done?

I've gone to a performance shop and a muffler shop (Mieneke) and both places told me they can't do it because there isn't enough room to run the pipes.

Obviosly, it can be done.

Thanks!

You'll have to loose your spare mounted under there but with it removed there's way more than enough room to run dual exhaust...I got mine done at a place called Lou's custom exhaust. But they are local to me...They charged me $395 and that's for the 50 series single in dual out muffler custom pipes all welded together and hangers...

RI Xterra- Do you have problems with exhaust being distributed equally between each side of your dual system. I have seem numerous "ricers" with dual exhaust where the emissions would flow out of only one side of the vehicle, when it was cold and the exhaust was visible. I was just wondering if you had any problems with this. Thanks.

Hey there Xterra_03

A Speed chip?

Can you say...

Resistor

Nice waste of money. If you want, send your $29.99 over to me, I'm just a poor science teacher.

About the only way you'll get more out of a "chip" is to send your ecm away and have it reprogrammed. You're not getting that for $29.99.

But if you buy now I'll include this nifty set of rusty can't cut worth a damn butter knives.

Not a speed chip it is a aftermarket resistor and i install it in the IAT Sensor. But it is a fraction of the cost of a ECU Upgrades. Do u think it will make a big diffrence. Plus im getting the calmini exhaust cat back system. Does anyone have that exhaust system and how do they like it.

Like I and many others on here will say...

Resistor. Does nothing more than fool the computer about the air temperature.

Can you just send me the money now?

Hey RI Xterra your truck looks awesome with the dual exhausts! Ive been thinking about doing this for a few months now, and seeing that makes me really want to do it. How do you like the sound??? Ill prob use the same setup with the flowmaster so I was just wondering. If you ever get the chance it would be cool to get a few pics of the underside to see how the shop set it up.... I think I am going to try and do it myself. The only thing that sucks is I dont know what to do with the spare. I dont want it inside, and I dont want the drag from mounting it up top.
