Probably need a BL since the 2000 does not have the proper clearance.

I would think it would work... you'd need the new computer too.

Others will chime in but I'm not sure anyone has accomplished this... keep us posted.

There was a guy on N4W that swamped the 3.3 S/C into a 97 Hardbody. So he went from a 4 banger to that. But he also swaped the trany and ECU. It's definitely possible, I'm sure there's more people who can give you better information. But I'm pretty sure you'll need more than just the engine. i.e. ECU, wiring harnesses, etc. Not to mention 2002+ hood so you have the clearance.

I researched this a bit for my 2001.
Unless you get the complete drivetrain it will be a pain in the ass to swap.

You need the following
Motor, tranny, wiring harness and computer.
You should be able to reuse the t-case and driveshafts.

Either cut a hole in the hood for the supercharger or do a body lift. It should fit nicely with the body lift.

The exhaust may need to be reconfigured.
And you should swap out the radiator for a larger one and electric fans just for additional cooling.

I dont think that is would be too difficult if you did the complete swap.
It will get tricky if you try reusing the stock wiring harness or transmission (if you have a 5 speed).
There are different part numbers for the clutch for the S/C vs. the N/A.
I have a centerforce clutch and wouldnt want to reuse it along with my tranny but it doesnt look like it would work.

That's all I remember off hand.

Edit to add: Here is a link to my local club where I started accumulating all the info.

If you don't put another 2000 motor into it you'll void the warranty of the new/remand 02-03 motor. I know most people say who cares but if you put a new motor in and blow it due to an incorrect install your going to want that warranty. Not worth it.

Why don't you just put a small bock V8 in it. If you are going to spend the money on a new motor anyways you might as well do it right. You can get a cheap turnkey 350 with a tranny just about anywhere.

[Freak] How long of a warranty did you get?

It wont be street-legal in some states, like NY.
I wouldnt want the headache involved either.
Did enough small block swaps back in high-school and into college.

And the motor will be a low-mileage junkyard motor so warranty is non-existant. 30 minutes or 30 feet, whichever comes first. [LOL]
And I'm at 105k miles after 6 and a half years of owning my X.

I think anyone who owns an s/c can tell you it's still slow as piss. You're better off just buliding your current NA V6...maybe a slightly higher compression ratio, headers, full exhaust, new pistons, intake, etc. Remember the VG series V6 was produced for over 20 years and distant versions of it were in the 300zx and maxima, so there should be plenty of carry over high performance parts.

If the S/C is slow as piss but beats the shit out of a N/A Xterra (tried with a fellow MXO member) then how slow is the N/A? laugh

You'll have to excuse the noob....
doing all that work to an N/A will put you about even with a S/C motor. Soooo what'd be the point

To build up the N/A xterra to something somewhat respectable you could probably buy two S/C junkyard motors or a full S/C drivetrain.
Not worth pumping a lot of money into the N/A motor if the S/C swap is an affordable option.

I'd have no problems swapping pulleys on the S/C and doing a water or alcohol injection system to prevent detonation under boost.. hehehehe

I have a write-up bookmarked somewhere about boring out the N/A motor and using the Q45 pistons and porting and polishing the heads, etc.
But after trying to price it out it is astronomical. Those parts are damn expensive.
A S/C is cheaper power.

For that kind of money and work you'd be better off throwing a VQ35 motor on the X.

if you are going to do a full drive train swap for the additional power,

why not step it up a notch and drop in a small block 305?

Life begins at 8 cylinders.
