Is that a bad thing? Seriously, I dont know. I e-mailed them and they said they have made several Leaf Pkgs for Xterras. I also read the NOR forums on the issue.

No, they make nice products. I'm just wondering what type of response you are looking for.

It would have to be a custom item, so I have no idea how the customer service would be.
The guy on NOR wou got them for his Frontier seems pleased.

One of the guys in my club runs a 4x4 shop. Saturday at a club meeting I asked him about having a new set made for my Xterra. He was going to call these guys. I 'll see him Friday and see what he says for pricing and let you know.

I really appriceate the input, what really turns me on about AOR' product are the Eyes of the leaf spring there is sort of a "ball socket" rather than a bushing. Whats everyones thoughts?

I don't think we can get enough flex for them to make a difference. With the SLR springs I got, droop is limited by the shocks. Also, they should be a rougher ride since there is no rubber there to damp vibrations

Good point brother, as obvious as it may have been. Metal to metal is not very absorbing.

But it is a spring, which absorbs vibration.

All the new Porsches have steel control arm bearings instead of bushings, which equals "precise".

Hmmm, in THIS picture, it looks as though there is some bit of a soft bushing ("molybdenum-based nylon socket") in the Orbit-eye.

Also, it looks like Alcan Springs makes the springs for AOR; scroll down a bit on THIS web page (We're proud that Advanced Off-Road Research (A.O.R.) chose Alcan Spring to manufacture their highly-rated Orbit-EyeTM Springs for hardcore rockcrawers and desert racers.").

Overall, the Orbit-eye looks to offer great articulation (with proper shocks, etc...). However, I've heard (& it does make some sense) that having too much "soft" flex in the rear will actually cause the front to articulate LESS (stiff torsion bars) on some obstacles, thus making the truck a bit more tippy.

Here\'s a review , but I still don't think it's worth using unless you are chopping the IFS front end and going solid axle.

your maybe correct. I hate to admit it when I say my wife says "are you really going to be going places that would justify buying that mod". In the army I always said better to have and not need than to need and not have, with in reason of course.

A couple of things you may want to look into. The orbit eye things were not used on the Fronty springs because the spring hanger was not wide enough. I don't know for sure if this would be the case for the Xterra, but I would assume so.

BDS is selling springs for the Frontier now for a pretty good price. You might see if they have anything for the Xterra as well.

ARBRN - are you a 91A w/ "P" identifier? Hood or Bliss?

I was w/ 18th MedCOM in Korea....377 Dust-Off & 560 Medivac Amb Co...'88&'89.

Also - spring rate is very important when making your decision - I have the rear AAL's from Cali - this wknd I removed my rear sway bar and had very little added articulation, then I broke a rear shock on the trail and the ride wasn't actually all that bad....so I'm thinking my rear sprongs are way too stiff for great trail use but they are excellent on the road.

hope this helps...

I was there from 89-94. As strang as it sounds I miss the place. I ended up going reservs here in lubbock TX, just to get the instate tuition and would you believe it I was deployed to Bosnia, I loved it my wife on the other hand. After that I was forced into retirement by "the wife".
