I've had a D70 for about a year and a half now. I absolutly love it.
The last time I actually picked up my film SLR was for a B&W darkroom class I took about a year ago.
Have fun with it!

I use the D50 at work and love it.. i'd love to pick up a DSLR but i get the feeling i'd be less likely to use it as much if i have to lug that thing around.
Great camera, though.

see i wont use a point and shoot... i like feeling like i have a real camera in my hand... the new point and shoot digitals all feel like disposible toys... I was reading online about the color saturationfrom the d50, d70, d100 and it was interesting... funny thing is I love black and white, so will sort of defeat that by desaturating most of my pics can't wait to get some time to sit down and playwith aperture and shutter speeds a bit... all in all very happy... the 2gb card i got for it certainly helps.. on full size full quality i get 600 pics... on medium size(still very large) i get about 1000... i do not forsee using film for anything... ever.

and you never have to process crappy ones... this is great, you can just rattle off 5-6 shots at a time instead of one... then delete the bad ones doing that i can still take 200 or so Bursts per card, where before it would be 24-36 pictures... Sweeeet. i have wanted a DSLR for sooo long but they were simply outragously priced... this is a hell of a camera for the money

I had my 40th B'day on Friday. My wife bought me a Canon D20 Kit complete with Grip, 2GB card and the works.
I also got 10 lessons with a pro photographer who teaches one on one. I am so looking forward to finally being able to shoot quality Digital pictures in manual mode. I had a Rebel Digital from Canon which I sold to one of my buddies...

so... Anyone else have this camera?Great picture! Love the baby's expression. That could be a contest winner. I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel and must admit being mildly annoyed when people like a shot and immediately say, "What kind of camera do you have?" Like the camera just leaps out of the bag, sees a nice composition, sets, aims, and fires. In Cabo San Lucas 8 years ago I had my Canon EOS Elan 35mm but was also carrying an APS point and shoot. Used it in panoramic mode to get this shot. You can't tell 'cause there's nothing to indicate scale but the spray off those waves was going at least 50 feet in the air. It's not the equipment...it's what you do with it. It interesting to see what people are shooting with, but let's see some pics! P.S. Don't write film off just yet. Yeah, my Elan is gathering dust but I'm keeping it handy.

I still keep my film Nikon N80 handy to shoot with my 15mm Fisheye f2.8 lens. It reaches a full 180 degrees and I love the effect it has on shots. The drawback is - when I use it on my digital cropped D70 - it really looses alot of "punch". Example of 180 degreeness. Here it is cropped - Still cool - but not as much "umph" behind it.

I've been doing photography for well over 15 years now. Not professionally, but I think I have the knowledge and know how to go pro if I wanted to. Right now, it's just a very expensive hobby. I have THOUSANDS of pictures. Some are framed, some are in a box, someare on the PC. Most were taken with film, but I recently added a Digital Rebel XT to my collection. Here is my equipment - Yashica TL-Electro (late 70's early 80's full manual camera) - Kamero 35mm f2.8
- Yashica 50mm f1.9
- Kamero 135mm f2.8
- +1, +2, +4 diopter filters(fisheye and closeup effects)
Canon Rebel XS(stock) Canon Eos A2(added verticle grip to it) Canon Digital Rebel XT(currently only a 1GB CF card) (nice thing is I can use all the same lenses and accessories for these three cameras) - Canon EF 18-55mm f3.5-5.6(Digital Rebel)
- Canon Ultrasonic 28-80mm f3.5-5.6
- Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6
- Samyang 500mm mirror lense f8
- Vivitar 2x converter
- Sigma EF-430ST electronic flash
- Sigma EF-430EO-N flash w/ LCD
- Wide variety of filters
- Remote shutter releases for all cameras
Along with those, My wife also has an Olympus Stylus 300(3.1MP digital with 16, 32, 128 & 256mb XD cards), and a Kodak Z7590 5.0MP with a 1GB SD card and the EasyShare printer dock. This is one of my favorite pics I have taken recently....I took it with the Digital Rebel on full manual on my drive back from AZ at the beginning of May.... Believe it or not, I took that in a gas station parking lot at around 11PM. Camera settings were: ISO - 200, Shutter speed - 1/800, F5.6. With those settings, I didn't think it would turn out, but I took about 8 of them just tinkering with the settings and this is BY FAR the nicest one! In all honesty, I STILL can't believe those settings worked for that time of night.

Don't have a fisheye, but I love my wide angle... Nikon D100 with the Tokina 12-24mm. (f/4, 1/6 second, ISO was 200, if I remember correctly...and using the Bogen Pod) Also picked up a SB-21 ring flash recently...fun fun fun!
