I just found that the '05 Xterra dosen't have lock for the fuel door, how you guys protect that fuel door???

I am not afraid people stealing gas, I am afraid some naughty boy pour sugar in my fuel tank and I don't know it!!

Where do I get the lockable fuel cap?

You could go to a local auto zone and buy a lockable fuel cap.

Pouring sugar in the tank does nothing. It is just extra carbon to burn.

I was concerned myself when I first got the ride I couldn't find the lever to release the gas lid!! I would have preferred they put at least a lever opening system just to deter any malicious activity.

Not even that, it's no different than pouring sand in. Sugar does not dissolve in gasoline, and can only clog the sock on the fuel pickup.

Nope, the fuel door doesn't lock on the X - something I was hoping they would address in the '05 but they didn't. Locking cap is still the only way to go

Well crap, I thought that since there was NO lift tab on the outside lid (like the '04) that the '05 was upgraded to a lock version.

So Where can I buy those online? or it's common parts that the parts store carry?

Yeah, because in reality, a gallon of bleach will so much worse for the fuel rails, injector pintles, fuel lines, regulator, fuel pump, etc.

Quit pissing off little boys and they won't pour bleach in your fuel tank.

Glad to see this topic! On Sat. evening we were at a Pumpkin Festival and came back to discover our "Service Engine Soon" light on, which is wierd, since we only have 1500 miles on it. Turns out our gas cap was off! Hubby swears he put it back on when he filled up.
My local Kragen store doesn't carry Stant brand, but they do stock Fram brand locking gas caps, which are supposed to be equivalent. We never thought about this kind of sabotage when we purchased it. Also if somebody did put something in our gas tank, would gas treatment additive help?

With the price of gas, I wouldn't be so worried about someone putting something in there, I would be more worry about someone stealing the gas.

I think you would get an SES light if your gas cap was off or loose. (at least you do on most other "new' vehicles)
Like Muzikman said, you probably had gas siphoned out instead of crap dumped in.

locking gas caps are on sale at either pep boys or kragen this week. Saw it in the weekly circular this past sunday, I believe they were stant caps too.

I called Kragen yesterday. They didn't carry Stant, but were supposed to be getting Fram equivalent in today...

Will the '06 be able to use the '01 Stant locking cap?

My '06 uses the same cap I had on my '03. Just swapped straight across at the dealership.
