I've been working the X hard lately and its always willing, but its showing me it likes the fuel when I ask for the power.

Lots of snow so using 4x4 a lot going to work and back. Towing around my snowmobile trailer a lot not using OD because of hills / curves in road. Sometimes trailer is empty, sometimes has up to 1000# on it. Never over 60 MPH. Occasional passing. Occasional going out in the field and hammering down for a minutes or less to play in the deep snow.

10-12 MPG last 4 tanks. Ugh.

I'll be towing my trailer with 1 snowmobile on it 250 miles next week. I'll be curious to see how it does using OD at 75 MPH. I'm not expecting good.

not an 05 owner and i dont mean this to be offenseive but what do you expect to get with the driving you just described? i dont tow, but regualary in the winter i get about 15mpg in my 01, when i play in the snow (donuts, hard on the gas etc) and use the 4wd i get about 12mpg, your driving style demands more power, and more power equals more fuel

I expect a lot better than that. I've owned a lot of 4x4 vehicles with V6s in them, and they all got better mileage than that. 13-15 is more what I'm used to.

The question is what was the weight of the others?? Were they 5000 pounds or more?? If not then that's the reason remember that you have 5000 pounds to get to speed. The new engine is a lot better then the previous generations so it's not under powered any more.

The more that you use 4wd the lower your mpg is going to get.

The last 2 tanks have been a solid 15.3mpg which is mostly freeway driving.

Spent the weekend in Moab doing 4hi/4lo stuff and got a lucky 12mpg.

I think you are lucky to have gotten 10 - 12mpg while towing and dinkin' around. It's part of the game. Enjoy!

BTW - the power is well worth the sucky gas mileage. End of argument... its sincere love!
