I know this question has probably been asked numerous times, but what is a good tire to replace my bfg's? I want a good wide footprint, a little aggressive look, but not a lot of road noise, and a good tire for louisiana rainstorms. I would also like to go to a 31x10.5, but I have seen a dunlop radial rover at that is 10.7 wide I think.

Please go to the Tires, Wheels, and Suspension forum and read back. That said, you need to let us know if you plan to take yours off-road or not. The Dunlop should be a decent tire, as are the Pirelli Scorpions and the BFG All-Terrain. I prefer the Dunlop RT over the AT, it looks more agressive and should be better in all conditions including off-road and rain. You can also look into the BFG Rugged Trail or the BFG Land Terrain (at Wal-Mart) as they are both a step up from the BFG Long Trails.

Also, please edit and delete the duplicate post. Click the pencil/paper icon at the top of your post to edit, then check the box at the upper left to delete it.

That sure would look stupid, handle poorly, and cause a ton of wear on suspension components.

Disregard advice like that.

Look into the Yokohama Geolandar ATs. These tires have better wet traction than any AT tire I have ever owned. They have an aggressive tread, but are minimal on the road noise and very smooth on the highway. They also have center channels to clear mud and snow, and won't pick up every little pebble like the BFGs (although the bfgs are also a great tire). This is the fist time I have ever owned Geolandars and I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far with how they handle. They are rated pretty high for wet traction and I can see why, especially when compared to stock.

OffroadX mentioned the Dunlop RT, but I don't think anyone has actually posted a review of them (I think only one XOCer actually has them on). They look cool and all, but something tells me they'll make the X ride like a tank. Everything I have heard about them says they are decent off road, but very stiff on the street. Anyway...there's my .02 cents.

I went with 31x10.50 Pirelli Scorpions and I have really enjoyed them. Aggresive enough tire so I can go places a little farther then I could before, but nice on the street as well. I had to do only a minor amount of trimming to make the tire work.

Bridgestone Dueller A/T. Running 265x70r16. Mine's a 4x2. Absolutely love the thread. Quiet, excellent grip in all weather - slight mud, rain, snow...

Good luck

Arthur

Actually I just got a very very good deal on it, and it being my first vehicle I didn't pay much attention to the 4x2.. big mistake.

However as you probably read in my other thread I'm getting a real 4x4, can't take getting stuck in mud and not being able to climb a hill.

Figured bridgestone AT is the best choice for mostly city / occasional offroad driving. Swampers and other mud tires are a tad too loud and wear out a bit faster (from what I've been told by the guy at the tire shop).

I would say that those or the bridgestone M/T is the best choice for a non-lifted truck.

I just bought a set of Pirelli Scorpion A/T's. 31x10.50 and I love them. They are very quiet and and a very smooth ride. Also they have a little more aggressive look than the BFG's. As for driving in the rain, I have noticed that they have not hydroplaned on me at all (unlike the stock BFG's!!) and seem to handle the road quite well. laugh
I got them at Discount Tire for just under $500, and that comes with lifetime of spin balancing and rotations, and free replacement for any damage.

Because you get zero rain and snow there. For your neck o the woods, they probably are great for highway/light off-road use (dry, dusty trails). Here in the east they are only marginally better than stock in heavy rain, and they don't do well at all in snow or mud.

just an FYI

we are in the midle of two storms... snow levels down to 1,500'(i live at 22' but thats not the point laugh ) and wind chill as low as -10

so socal does get winter... just not as bad.

the tires are not the best in snow/ice but then again no A/T is if you live in snowy climate your better off having a set of winter tires... but i have noticed no problems in the rain... and we have had a couple periods of rather heavy rain

Been to Angeles Crest lately Todrick? I'm waiting for the next rainy day and driving up there on my 4x2, should be fun.

Pictures of an SUV in snow come out real nice.

Santiago? Do you go in from the Ortega side or one of the canyons? Is the gate ever open any more?

the gate off silverado canyon is almost always closed... they are trying to save some kind of endangered frog

I usually go in off the 15fwy... exit Indian truck trail head south, after 100 yrds. the road turns to dirt and your on you way to the peak...

All depends on what type of soil or conditions you drive in. On my 2000 X 2wd I just upsized from BFG Long Trails 265x70x15 to the same tire in 31x10.50x15. Did not need rims. I had 55k on the original tires and that is the main reason I stayed with BFG. Off road the works great and the tire is much taller and wider vs OEM. The price was not bad either. I paid $ 425 for the set. I did have to do a minor amount of trimming on the inside of the mud flaps. A dremel tool works fine it is fast. I do get a lot of comments on how good the truck looks.

Pirrelli Scorpians are a mean tire and very quite on-road. I can't comment rain performance as It doesn't rain here in Colorado that much. I love the tires though.

Edit to add: Short term Scorpian A/T review is here

I've got Dunlop Radial Rover A/T's: 265/70/16. So far I like them a lot. I decided against getting an M/T since I do more pavement, and trail driving than anything. M/T's wear down faster on pavement.
