That's kind of a funny question. You know, a 4x4 is really just a 4x2 with a transfer case and some extra parts. There isn't a "special" transfer case that you would need. But you'll need a lot more than a transfer case to convert your 4x2 into a 4x4!

For starters, you'd need:
transfer case
shifter
front differential, including axleshafts and driveshaft
new (shorter) rear driveshaft

Plus, if you have a 4-cylinder, there might be a lot of other issues mating the transfer case to the transmission.

You're probably better off trading in the 4x2 for a 4x4 than trying to convert.

WHY? confused By the time you are done buying all the parts and paying for the labor, you could have easily traded up to a 4x4 with money left over.

For shits and giggles, lets see what you would need:
- Transfer case
- Front drive shaft
- Rear drive shaft
- Front differential
- Right and left half shafts
- Hubs (manual or auto locking)
- Crossmember (not included on 4x2's)
- Labor to R&R all the parts listed above.

Even if you got these parts from a junkyard or bought a totaled truck, you are talking several thousand dollars. By the time you start adding labor to all of this, your total bill would be ridiculous. [Uh Oh !] [Crybaby] frown

I wouldn't even consider converting a 4x2 to a 4x4 with stock front drive. If you were adamant to make it a project vehicle, then you might just as well buy a solid front axle and put in coils or leafs up front so you could lift it higher than 3". Although it would still be cheaper to start with a 4x4 to do a SAS (solid axle swap) since the transfer case is already there.

You need a new transmission rear case too, since they are different. The 2WD just outputs to the driveshaft, the 4WD mates to the transfer case.
